John Philip Nepper, Sr.

5/30/1931 – 3/27/2017

He was a good man. John P. Nepper, born May 30, 1931 in Grand Forks, ND. He passed away in Omaha NE at the age of 85 on March 27, 2017. He is survived by his children: John Nepper Jr. , Nancy Janne (husband Michel), Scott Nepper (wife Martha) and David Nepper (wife Kim). Jack had 9 grandchildren: Jennifer Holmes (husband Matt), Jason Nepper, Nicholas, Stephanie, Natalie and Jeremy Nepper, Tabatha Williamson (husband Adam), Zachary Love and Justin Love. He also enjoyed his 6 Great-Grandchildren: Kaelynn Holmes, Bailyan, Azlynn, Maryn, Korbyn and Remingtyn Williamson. John earned his Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts. He and Bev attended high school at St. James Academy where he gained many lifelong friends.   He completed his Engineering degree at the University of North Dakota, The Fighting Sioux. Although John knew Beverley in high school, he only began dating her during his college years. They married in 1952 and lived in Colorado until he was transferred to Bitburg Germany and Africa for his service in the USAF. He was a First Lieutenant in the First Pilotless Bomber Squadron 1954-1956. Jack and Bev enjoyed Europe immensely. They traveled many places while they were stationed there; loving the last place they went the best, Italy.Upon returning from Germany in 1956, they settled in Cobalt Idaho where they also met lifelong friends. He was putting his mining Engineering degree to work and soon discovered that he didn’t like going down in the mine every day. John Nepper Jr was born in Idaho in 1957. Soon after, they moved to Bountiful Utah (Salt Lake City) and Jack got a job at Sperry Rand,   Nancy was born in 1961 and Scott was born in 1964 in Utah. Jack and Bev had great friends in Utah as well, playing a lot of cards and drinking root beer with the Mormons. Surely, we were the only Catholics in the neighborhood. Jack was transferred to Huntsville Alabama in the summer of 1965. Still with Sperry Rand, he was contracted out to NASA where he worked on the Saturn moon launch project. David was born there in 1965. Alabama was a fun time for us all; we had a swimming pool in the backyard where we spent most of our free time. Jack and Bev would attend party after party. There was always a party in Alabama, formals, costume, theme and cocktail parties. Then there was the Friday evening meal: “Try Something New Day”, not a kid favorite. In December of 1968 the Nepper’s then moved to Thief River Falls Minnesota, to work for Arctic Cat Enterprises. The children loved Thief River, we had lots of cousins and the small town was so much fun for a kid.   While living in Minnesota, Jack donated a kidney to his older brother James. Jack and Bev decided to transfer down to Omaha NE with an Arctic Cat subsidiary, General Leisure in the summer of 1971. Finally, they stayed put for several decades. After the General Leisure closure, Jack and Bev started Design Plastics in 1972. It was a very difficult business but they made it successful. In Omaha, the grandchildren began to arrive, starting in 1984. All of them were a great source of pride for grandma (Grandpa too!). Summers at the lake with Grandma… Hard to beat! Beverley Nepper died in Omaha in the summer of 2003, at the age of 72. A sad day for all… Jack was always concerned about helping out everyone, which is why he insisted early on offering free tuition and books for college to his employees. He wanted everyone to earn a college degree without owing any money upon graduation. Jack had many charities, many he kept to himself, many he shouted to the world. He was a very kind man, loved by all. Visitation  Friday (3/31/2017( 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Roeder Mortuary 108th Street Chapel.
