Gennett E. Jones was a gift from God on August 14, 1950. She was born in Canton, Mississippi to the late George S. and Celestine Jones. She was the youngest of nine siblings. Attended Rogers High School in Canton, Mississippi and received her high school diploma at Tech High School in Omaha, Nebraska. She confessed Christ at A.M.E. Zion Church in Canton, Mississippi at an early age.

Gennett, aka “Bush”, was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing for others, quilting, and baking desserts, which was a support to her family of six children. She was a great decision maker and protector of her children. She had a quiet spirit about her and kept to herself.

Gennett was preceded in death by her mother and father, George S and Celestine Jones; brothers, Henry McDaniel and Levandia Jones; sisters, Rosie L. Jones-Edmonds and Mary E. Flowers; and son, Michael Lindell Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memories five children, Lamar Jones (Julia) of Omaha, Richard Binnett (Claudia) of Sennfeld, Germany, James Binnett of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Elaine Walker-White (Leonard) of Atlanta, Georgia, Pecola Jones of Omaha; “Special Friend, Robert Cruz”; sisters, Francis M. Jones of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dorothy Johnson (Bernice) of Omaha, Gene Saunders of Arlington, Texas, Pecola William of Omaha; 18 Grandchildren; 11 Great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

You fought the good fight, which gave us strength, now the time has come for your rest in all Gods Glory so go in peace, you have earned your reward, “Heaven at last.”

Joseph Breci

5/11/1947 – 7/30/2017

Born in Omaha in 1947. Attended Central High School. Worked at the Omaha Post Office for 12 years, including a supervisory position. Earned his Real Estate license in 1992. Attended ABC Electric School and was licensed as a Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor. He owned his own electrical company called, “It’s Electric.”

Joe thoroughly enjoyed his electrical work and visiting with people anywhere he met them. His hobbies included: reading and studying the Bible, bowling (he was a Series Winner (300-800) and ABT Winner), metal detecting, and collecting coins. He was an avid Husker fan, having seasons tickets for over 40 years!

He had a profound love of God and His Word.

Ardice L. Braun

Ardice was born when her parents, Ernest Leroy “Roy” Deming and L. Gladys (Kennedy) Deming lived on a farm between Spencer and Bristow, Nebraska. She was the second of two girls. She has two little brothers who died at birth. Later her folks farmed on the river bottom near Blair, Nebraska and she walked the two miles into Blair to go to school. She graduated from high school in Blair and went to business school in Omaha. She enlisted in the Coast Guard during WWII doing secretarial work. Then she came back to Omaha, after the war, and did secretarial work.

She met and married William Braun in Omaha. Three children were born: Alan, Diane, and Janet. Also, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was always active in ladies church circles.

She was preceded in death by Husband: William; Daughter: Diane Bruderer; Sister: Betty Frederick; Survived by Children: Alan (Patty) Braun, Janet Morris; 8 Grandchildren; 9 Great-grandchildren; And numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family & friends.

Louise H. Voss

5/18/1925 – 7/21/2017

Louise Helen Peters Voss, 92, of Omaha died July 21, 2017 at Walnut Grove in Omaha.

Louise was born May 18, 1925 in Jamestown, North Dakota to Frank and Alice Pendray Peters. She lived in North Dakota until graduating from high school. She moved to Denver, CO where she met the love of her life, Herb, to whom she had been married for 70 years.  After Herb finished his time in the Army, they moved to Omaha where Louise worked for Mutual of Omaha until her first daughter was born.  After raising their family, Louise went to work for Walgreens retiring at the age of 69.  Louise loved to garden and take care of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Herb, three daughters Diana (Dave) Zach of Wayne, NE, Barbara (Doug) Chevalier of Morton, IL, Sandra Voss of Omaha, one son, Steven and his fiancée Susan of Omaha.  Seven grandchildren Mike (Marsha) Zach, Mark (Angie) Zach, Tom (Darcy) Zach, Tim Zach, Karen (Cory) Chevalier Bleeker, Laura (John) Chevalier Sprague, Cody Voss.  Three step-grandsons Joel Miller, Dustin Miller, Casey Miller. Fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, her sister in law, four brothers in law, and one brother.

Services will be held at Christ Community  Church 404 S 108th on Thursday July 27 at 10:00 AM with visitation at Roeder Mortuary 2727 N 108th St Omaha, Wednesday July 26th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with family present.

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.

Theresa Charlson

Theresa Charlson, 58, passed away unexpectedly at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE on June 29, 2017.

Theresa was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on October 28, 1958 to Joel and Sandra Turnbull. After relocating several times during her father’s military service, her family moved to Forest City, IA. Prior to her graduation from Forest City High School, she attended the Belmond, IA community school system. Upon graduation, she worked at North Central Human Services (NCHS) and served in various roles assisting handicapped children. She met Elynn Charlson and they were married on September 3, 1977. They were blessed with two beautiful children—Joseph and Amy. They made Forest City their home and while there she held numerous jobs after being a stay-at-home mom for several years. She and her husband later relocated to Omaha, NE, where she accepted a job as a pharmacy technician at Offutt Air Force Base.

Theresa enjoyed cooking and baking and for several years had her own cake business—Cake Works. She also loved crafts and sewing, making several quilts for her children; gardening and tending to her flower beds; outdoor activities; spending time with her family and friends; and making many memorable memories with her grandson. She will be most remembered for her kind-hearted spirit, selflessness and zest for life.

Theresa was devoted to her family. Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband Elynn Charlson; son Joseph (Mirrna) Charlson, daughter Amy (Eric) Richey and grandson Zayden Richey and future granddaughter; mother Sandra Turnbull; sister Jeanine (Jerry) Marsolek; brothers Brad, Brian and Todd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; mother and father-in- law; and Dorothy Haugen (special family friend).

Celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 7th, 2017 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Roeder Mortuary Gretna Chapel: 11710 Standing Stone Drive, Gretna, NE 68028. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8th, 2017 at 10:00am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: 11204 South 204th Street Gretna, NE 68028.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Catherine Haley

Catherine (Kay) Hull Haley, 80, of Gretna died July 2, 2017.

She was born in Tulsa, OK. to James Dean and Catherine (Goodrich) Hull April 16, 1937. Her parents both died when she was a young girl. After several years living with her maternal grandparents in Long Beach, CA. she went to live with her aunt and uncle in Del Mar, CA. She attended boarding school at Ramona Secondary School in Alhambra, CA. She received an Associates degree from Lincoln School of Commerce.

Kay and Thomas O. Haley, Sr. were married July 1, 1959 and had 5 children. They divorced in the late 1980’s.

After the children were raised, Kay started her career at the Nebraska Hospital Association and later worked for UNL in the Physics and Astronomy department. She retired in 2013.

Kay was an avid gardener, and a certified Master Gardener for many years. She enjoyed volunteering her time helping others. Kay was an active member of Call to Action Nebraska and served many years with Beginning Experience for the Omaha Archdiocese. She moved to Gretna in 1999 where she was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and served as an EMHC for many years.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Hull (Marian). She is survived by her children/spouses John Haley, Brighton, CO.; Jim Haley (Barb) Omaha; Ann McMickell (Rick), Hastings; Tom Haley, Jr. (Lisa), Omaha; Dan Haley, Berlin, MD.

Kay is also survived by her grandchildren: Matt Haley (Bailey), Renton, WA.; Adam Haley, Wichita, KS.; Beth Haley, Marge Haley, Rob McMickell (Althea), Allison McMickell, Jack Haley, Molly Haley and Will Haley all of Omaha; great grandson Graham McMickell of Omaha. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Marian Hull; niece Cindy Cox and nephew Steve Hull, all of San Antonio, TX.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gretna, on Friday, July 7, at 10:00 AM with Visitation from 9:00-10:00 AM.
