Patricia A. Kogele

Kogele, Patricia A., March 6, 1936 – November 17, 2017, passed away in Omaha, NE. She was a resident of Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Special Care Center.

Pat Kogele was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Robert and Gertrude (Burr) McGill.

When she was young, Pat loved to swim and play piano. While attending North High School, she was a highly-awarded marksman on the school’s competitive shooting team. Pat had many friends and enjoyed parties, school dances, and social events.

After graduation, Pat went to work at Mutual of Omaha, where she met and later married Richard Carritt. Together they raised two children, Kim and Kevin.

Pat was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, studying history of all types, and always helped with her children’s school and extracurricular activities, including Girl Scouts, and PTA. She had a philanthropic spirit and loved animals.

Pat was an enthusiastic, lifelong learner. She began pursuing a degree in education while her children were still young, earning her bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate. After a divorce, she started working for the Omaha Public School District and later continued her education, earning two Masters Degrees, one in counseling and one in education.

During her career in education she had many roles, including classroom teacher, principal, and counselor, the latter she found especially rewarding. Pat helped to run a summer camp for disabled kids, and volunteered for years at CASA, as a court appointed child advocate for abused and neglected children. Pat retired from OPS in 2002.

Pat married Mel Kogele, in the late 70’s and happily became stepmother to Mel’s adult children. The couple enjoyed entertaining their many friends and family, and went on many marvelous adventures together. Sadly, Mel passed away in 2007.

Pat was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church in Omaha.

Pat was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Melvin Kogele; parents, Robert and Gertrude (Burr) McGill; and brother, Robert McGill

She is survived by her children Kim Wagner (Virgil Wagner); Kevin Carritt  (Caroline); Don Kogele; Neal Kogele (Becky) ; and Linda Roman (Christopher); as well as ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation with the family Tuesday (11/21/17) 5-6:30 PM with Prayer Service Tuesday 6:00 PM Roeder Mortuary 2727 N 108th Street Omaha, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities of Omaha.

Marlys L. Johnson

10/17/1920 – 11/17/2017
Marlys  Lorraine Johnson, 97, died on November 17, 2017 at Midlands Hospital, Omaha Nebraska.  A Family Service will be held at Roder Mortuary. Marlys was born October 17, 1920 to Frank and Adella Pranke in Bremen Township, North Dakota.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon, two brothers, Vernon Pranke, Eldon Pranke, and one sister, Maxine Thordson. She was a graduate of Fessenden High School. She attended Valley City State Teachers College, graduating with a Teaching Certificate.  She taught K-12 in Cathay, Bowden, and New Rockford North Dakota schools.  She married Vernon Johnson in Moorhead, Minnesota on November 26, 1948.  They lived in Moorhead Minnesota, Fargo North Dakota, Omaha Nebraska, Berkeley Heights New Jersey, and Bella Vista Arkansas.She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary in Bella Vista, The Bella Vista Garden Club, and several bridge groups.  She loved College Football, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. She is survived by one sister in law, Joyce Pranke, Fessenden North Dakota, two sons, Gregory (Nancy) Johnson, Denver Colorado, Doug Johnson (Krista), Omaha Nebraska, and a daughter, Marcia (Mark) Jewett, Omaha Nebraska.  She was also blessed with 11 Grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Toni was born on April 30, 1959 in Omaha, NE to Jack and Ardith (McKay) Wilburn.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Toni is survived by her significant other; Cody Chapman, sister; Kim Pagnano (Joe), brother; Jack Wilburn (Beverly), nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Paul M. Carey

January 27, 1943 – October 29, 2017

Paul was born January 27, 1943 to Thomas J. and Ethel H. (Moline) Carey in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Survived by his devoted wife of 51 years Jean H. (Poppen) Carey, son Brett (Teresa) Carey, daughter Dawn (Walt) Henry, grandchildren Brett Thomas, Isabel, Philip, and Sarah and sister Claudia (Wes) Warner.

A graduate of Iowa State University, Paul married his high school sweetheart, Jean, on March 3, 1966 in Manson, Iowa. After a career in industrial management and sales, Paul founded his own machinery sales company, Machinery Omaha, LLC, in 2002.

Paul enjoyed wood working, landscaping, hunting, Nascar and working at the Shrine Circus. A life member of the York and Scottish Rites, Paul was an active member of the Tangier Shrine, volunteering his time and talents to raise funds to transport patients to the Shrine Hospitals.

Visitation: Wednesday, November 1, 2017 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm Masonic Service: 7:30 pm at Roeder Mortuary 2727 N 108th Street Omaha, NE. Funeral Service: Thursday, November 2, 2017 10:30 am at Presbyterian Church of the Cross, 1517 S. 114th Street., Omaha, NE. Reception following at the Tangier Shrine Center.
