Dec 18, 1970 – Aug 1, 2015
Troy B. Travis, 44, was born on December 18, 1970 in Omaha, Nebraska to James Travis and Estella Guliford. He graduated from Benson High School in 1989, where he excelled in athletics. Many claim (including Troy himself…) that he was the best athlete to have come out of Omaha. Troy received his Associates degree from Independence Community College. One of the highlights of his football career was playing arena football for 7 years, 4 of which he played quarterback for Omaha Beef Indoor Football League.
Following college, Troy worked as a Correctional Officer for Douglas County Corrections. Thereafter, he worked on the security team for Fontenelle Elementary and later Benson High School for a total of 12 years with the Omaha Public School District. Additionally, he was an assistant football coach for Benson High. Troy was a dedicated hard worker and he loved working at his alma mater.
Troy “Little Buddha” was a member of the ZAC Riders Motorcycle Club, a national organization based out of Omaha. Riding his motorcycle was a great passion of his and he loved spending time at the Club with his fellow riders. Besides his love and commitment to the Zac Riders, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his daughter, Troi, and fiancé, Julie. Troy and Troi enjoyed going to the park together, eating pancakes, playing soccer, taking pictures of her and spending quality time together. She was his pride and joy, his heart. His absence will be sorely felt for Troi for years to come but he lives on in her personality and her same love of life
To say Troy loved his community would be an understatement. He mentored and coached hundreds if not thousands of Benson and Omaha youth. He instinctively understood the significance of building positive relationships with young people and it came naturally to him. Friends and family will miss his genuine concern for others, his contagious positivity, the way he helped people through tough times, his nicknames for everyone, his big smile, fun-loving style and humor. Troy was so generous with his attention to others. He never wanted to see anyone struggle and would move any mountain to help people. Troy was one of those unique and rare individuals who made everybody feel like somebody special
