Queen Esther Hill

4/29/1925 – 1/17/2015

Queen Esther loved to go to church, but more than anything, she loved God. She was a woman with a godly spirit who was always willing to give and help, be it a church member, a neighbor, a child or a stranger – you could depend on her. She always said she’d help you before she’d hinder you.

Born to Julius and Leola (Dunlap) Williams, Sr, on April 29, 1925 in Bluffs City Arkansas; she was the oldest child of this union. She attended the Union Grove Elementary School and Upchurch Training School (H.S.)

Her father was a farmer, so there were always stories of life on the farm: Chopping cotton, helping in the fields, feeding and tending to the animals and farm life in general. One story mama used to tell us about was how she acquired her own watermelon patch. Grandpa decided since he knew she was the one who was ‘sneaking’ them from his crop, he gave her her own patch.

When grandma would go to help her mother, mama would be left to care for her younger siblings while grandpa was in the fields.

She met her husband, Ozie Hill, Sr, who also grew up in the area. He worked at the Sante Fe, Atchison and Topeka Railroad. They married in June of 1946. Looking for better job opportunities, they came to Omaha, NE shortly thereafter.

While living in the 24th & Spencer St area she met and befriended Sister Collins who invited her to church. By 1955 she decided that she would attend Great Bethlehem Temple and make it her church home. At that time, the church was a storefront at 20th and Lake until the church moved to 2316 N 25th St.

Baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the Holy Ghost she taught Sunday school for over 40 years was a missionary and served faithfully. The church moved from this location to its present location where the name was changed and is under new leadership.

As her health began to fail, she attended New Hope Apostolic Temple, the church her daughter attended in case she became ill, a family member was near.  Her daughter Darlene enrolled her in the Friendship Adult Daycare Program and also got a senior companion for her.

Just before she passed Queen had stated that her ‘Father’ was waiting on her… he was expecting her. She passed away Sat, Jan 17, 2015 with her daughter and great granddaughter near.

Preceded in death by her parents – Julius and Leola Williams; Sisters Lillie M Fluker and Louise M. Carr; Brothers: Julius L. Williams Jr, James Williams and Naymond Williams; Son: Roy W Williams; Grandson: Courtney H Taylor.  She is survived by her Brother: Raymond Williams of Prescott, Arkansas; Daughters: Virdia L Stevens (Larry Sr) of Warrensburg, Missouri, Darlene Turner and Glenda Hill of Omaha, Nebraska; Son: Ozie Hill Jr of Omaha, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

VISITATION Tuesday, January 27th, 4-6pm at Mortuary. HOME GOING 10am Wednesday, January 28th, Roeder Mortuary. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery.
