Entered into her heavenly home with her husband and only daughter by her side. She was born in Omaha to Richard McGraw and Donaldine Warrington. She graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1951, where she was very involved in journalism and music. She took her training as a registered nurse at the Nebraska Medical Center, and later earned her Masters Degree in Counseling/Administration at the then Omaha University. She began her nursing career at University Hospital supervising the male medicine ward. She then teamed with Minnie Schaeffer to establish Booth Memorial Hospital serving geriatric patients. After the birth of her daughter, wanting to be home during the day, she returned to University Hospital working nights in the Emergency Room. In 1966 she joined the Omaha Public Schools as a school nurse. During her time in the schools, she served students at Laura Dodge Elementary, Morton Junior High School, and Technical High School. Readily recognized for her leadership qualities, she was promoted to be the assistant to Rena Mae Gibson, the Supervisor of Health Services. Upon Miss Gibson’s retirement, she assumed the duties of Supervisor of Health Services until her retirement in 1991. During her tenure she was best known for her strong support of increased nursing services in the schools, and the development of the first OPS Sex Education Program. Her faith was a large part of her life and she was very involved in her church. She sang in the choir; taught Sunday School, especially loving the pre-schoolers; and was active in the Women’s Ministries. She loved to travel and attending the opera. Hers was a life of generosity. She enjoyed crafts and baking, especially when she was making something for someone else. She and her husband were responsible for the table decorations for the welcoming dinners held by their church’s Alpha Outreach Ministries program. She enjoyed entertaining and hosted an annual tea for her nurses, the family Christmas gathering, and the annual family picnic. Church missionaries were always welcome in her home during their respite in Omaha. She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence “Larry” Rundlett, and daughter, Dr. Rebecca Rundlett and husband Thomas Starr, Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her brothers, James Hutchison and Gerald Hutchinson, both of Springfield, NE, and Edward Hutchinson and wife Deirdre, Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Donna Kluza, and her brothers, Richard McGraw and Robert Hutchinson.

Years ago, Betty was one of the “regulars” for our annual winter Adult Open Swim classes at Norris Junior High. We had a great group and many had been or became lifelong friends. Betty always had fun and was a joy. She particularly liked the last session each year when I had all of the participants jump in the water fully clothed to see if they could disrobe and survive. (Of course we did this in shoulder-high water but it was fun nonetheless.) Betty appreciated the seriousness of this exercise and it inspired her to offer CPR training classes in her home for all the adults. Most everyone attended and also enjoyed the special “treats” that she provided each time. Betty was indeed a very dear and giving lady. She was one of those rare, inspiring people who God brings into your life so you can see how it is supposed to be done. Even though it’s been about 40 years ago, I am so grateful that she blessed my life. I am sure the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant” were spoken when she Arrived.

Very sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. She was a beaming light at our gym and we share so many stories of her kindness and generosity. I have made a donation to the American Cancer Society in her honor. We love you very much, Betty.

I was honored to be one of the many Omaha School Nurses that Betty headed. We learned from the best. She was always professional, kind and giving. I was a better nurse having her as my mentor. She touched thousands of children’s lives every year. My condolences to her family. Linda Vader Amstutz

I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy to the family for the loss of your dear Betty. I hope that you will find comfort in the words of Jesus at John 5:28,29 where he promised that the day is coming when he is going to resurrect back to life those in the grave. Until then, it is just like they are sleeping. (John 11:11-13) May you draw strength from Jehovah, the God of all Comfort.
