2/17/1932 – 6/30/2016

Ulysses Simpson Murrell was the fourth child of Silvarnus and Daisy Murrell, born on February 17, 1932 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Frances O. Murrell; daughters: LaRita Murrell, Euvondia Vaughan, Lynnette (Joseph) Watson, Lysses Murrell; grandchildren: Eulyssa, Monte, Laghe, Danielle, Kiev, Elligton, Elanna; a host of great-grandchildren; sisters: Ruby Fernandez, Joyce Johnson; brothers: Arthur, Gerald, Clifford, Johnny Murrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by brothers: Henry and Earl; as well as his parents.

In 1952, at the age of eighteen, Ulysses moved from Eufaula, Oklahoma to Omaha, Nebraska. In 1953, he was drafted to the Army and was discharged one year later. Ulysses married Frances O. Birch on June 19, 1957 and they had 4 beautiful daughters together. He found employment at Wilson Packing Co. and worked there for 25 years until they closed. He then worked at Kellogg’s until 1995, when he retired. Because of his kindness, integrity and great work ethic, he was well respected by his colleagues.

After his newfound love and respect for our Father, Jehovah, he joined his wife and was baptized on July 22, 1972. Up until the time of his death, his love for people moved him to devote his time and energy into teaching others about the Bible. Our memories of Ulysses include his love of watching sports, faithfully having his down time, his daily morning exercise, his endless piddling around the house and patching everything together with duct tape, cooking his trusty red hot and boiled egg, his love of nice cars, his smooth voice, infectious laugh, GQ fashion sense, and most of all he will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, loyalty, and dependability. He was a loving father, brother, Elder, mentor and friend to us all.

Colin D. Nevius

May 2, 1961 – June 27, 2016

Colin Dean Nevius was born May 2nd, 1961 to Dean and Mary Nevius of Fremont, Nebraska. Mary always said Colin was such a cute, fun, and happy baby. Colin attended Fremont Public Schools, where as a kid he fell through Howard Elementary School’s skylight while climbing the roof to collect forgotten sports balls. Colin always found mischief to keep himself entertained growing up.
He is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Michelle Nevius, and children, Erin, Sean, and Shane Nevius. He also leaves behind his parents, Dean and Mary Nevius, one brother, Terry (Deb) Nevius, and three sisters: Jacqui (Tom) Carnes, Joni (Tom) King, and Jill (John) Lorkovic. Colin will be dearly missed by his three nephews, Parker, Jack, and Charlie, and by his five nieces, Anna, Katy, Taylor, Lexie, and Celine. He will all ways be a son to his father in law and mother in law Jim & Betty Risinger and a brother to his sister in law Julie Risinger. Colin is also remembered by his best friend and cousin, Bob (Shelly) Prickett, and is celebrated by the Doobie Brothers and all who knew “Nemo” in Fremont, Nebraska.
Colin was extremely proud to serve his country in the United States Navy on the USS Guam. He told his children repeatedly his greatest choice in the Navy was being smart enough to not “get any damn tattoos!” Colin loved being a dad and spending time with his family. He was a loyal and hard-working husband who strived to give Michelle the world. He will be remembered by his loved ones as a fisherman who loved his boat. Colin always knew how to get others to laugh, and his booming chuckle will be forever cherished.
Colin also served his community, acting as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Gretna Boy Scout Troop 363, where he’s best remembered for his hilarious stories and love of hot, black coffee. Colin was an Eagle Scout himself, and got great satisfaction from guiding young men on their path to becoming leaders.
He enjoyed cooking at home, watching his favorite team the Nebraska Cornhuskers, or lounging in holey sweatpants with an old war or western flick, a toothpick always in his ear. Colin loved “playing” with his snow blower throughout the neighborhood, and looked forward to scaring the neighborhood kids every Halloween.
Colin has lived a life that impacted so many with his goofy sense of humor and overall love for life. He recently told his family how happy he was with his life, and how proud he was of what he had accomplished. We are all so proud of what he has accomplished too, and only wish we had more time to cherish him, and that laugh and smile. We will miss our strong, proud husband, father, son and friend, and we look forward to meeting him on the Great Lake someday, fishing pole in hand.
