6/11/1938 – 6/4/2015

Frederick George McNamara was born June 11, 1938 to George and Hester McNamara. Fred had 7 brothers and 6 sisters, for a total of 14 children. Fred was always a good brother and always willing to help, according to Brother Art. Fred joined the Army in 1958 at the age of 20. He then served in the Korean Conflict in 1959. He also served in the Vietnam War. He received one Purple Heart in Korea. He also received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star an Armed Forces Services Medal, two Purple Hearts, and a Purple Heart with a Cluster in Vietnam. Peach remembers Fred protecting his country and showing heroism. Barb remembers going to the movies when Fred would come home on leave and visiting him in Florida. Nonie liked it how when Mom would yell for dinner, none of the boys would come away from the cars. But, if she yelled “Beer Break,” the tools would fly everywhere and the boys would come running. Johnny remembers helping Fred change his 1975 blue Chevy pickup from clutch to automatic. Fred loved to use his hands and fix things. So when he moved to Arkansas, he helped his sister, Pat, fix the little house she had. Fred also loved to fish and he went a lot with Joe. Fred loved to spend time with nephews and nieces. One of his favorite memories was of George taking apart his carburetor. Fred loved motor vehicles no matter the situation, whether it was losing a tire on the way back to Arkansas and getting stopped by a small sapling and Fred saying “That was close” or laughing at his nephew and niece while trying to change a window motor and losing all the sockets in the door, then getting soaked by the rain. One of the things in recent memory that he loved was to be called Uncle Skittles and Adventure Boy by his great niece. Fred loved his family no matter where they were or what they were doing.
