12/6/1942 – 9/13/2018

Dorothy Elaine Freeland, known and loved by all as “Dottie”, passed away on September 13th, 2018 at the age of 75. Born and raised in Waterloo, Dottie loved all things Iowa. The farms, the trees, the country roads, and most of all the people. She often would be found driving the back roads, stopping in our small towns to explore the unique aspects of where she was. She always found a special memento to pick up or an exciting picture that had to be taken, which she never tired of sharing with everyone.

Dottie’s passion for living and sharing in God’s blessings is epitomized by her lifelong association with Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star. As Worthy Advisor, Mother Advisor, Grand Representative to Vermont, and Grand Electa – Iowa, she was committed to helping these organizations in every way possible. She was blessed with wonderful memories, special friends, and the joy of knowing in some small way she brought a smile to the faces of so many.

Dottie is preceded in death by parents Harold and Harriett Barchus, sister Ellie Barnes, Husband Vern Freeland. Survived by her sister, Eileen Mutch (Jim); her three children, Tricia Croushorn (Mike), Shelly Diehl (Mark), and Dennis Freeland (Jennifer); six grandchildren, Abi, Tyler, Sam, Jordan, Evan, and Ian; and her great grandchild Zach.

Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, September 20, 2018, 2pm at First Presbyterian Church, 505 Franklin St, Waterloo, Iowa 50703.

Memorial donations for Dottie can be made to the family to be determined later.

Katie Mae “Curry” Waytes Age 87 of Omaha, NE passed away on September 9, 2018. She was born on June 21, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama to Willie and Estelle (Curry) Gibson. She was preceded in death by her husband; Howard, parents and great-grandson; Justin Scaife, Jr. Katie is survived by her sons; Keith (Elaine) Waytes, Kevin Waytes and Kenneth Waytes, daughters; Kim Waytes and Karen Waytes, 15- grandchildren, 29- great-grandchildren, 2-great-great-grandchildren, sister; Juanita Gibson, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Missionary Deborah Elizabeth Greene was the second child born to James and DeLois Morris born on May 17, 1957 in Paris, Texas. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1959 where Deborah attended Long and Conestoga Elementary Schools, McMillian Jr. High, Tech High School and graduated from North High School in 1975. Deborah obtained her cosmetology license before graduating high school.

On December 15, 1975, Deborah married Bruce Greene and that union welcomed two daughters: Alisha Dionne and TaRae Danielle.

Missionary Deborah was a master of all trades. She styled hair, she sewed clothes, played the organ and blessed many with her singing voice. Missionary Deborah grew up in the church singing with the infamous Morris Family Group. Later she formed her own group The Greene Family with her daughters.

Missionary Deborah was very active in church. She served as the State Minister of Music of the Nebraska Eastern Jurisdiction and the Minister of Music at Mt. Zion C.O.G.I.C. She was also the president of the Young Women’s Christian Counsel (Y.W.C.C.)

Missionary Deborah was preceded in death by her father, James Morris and by her grandparents Elder Eddie and Minnie Beauford and Joseph and Florence Morris.

Missionary Deborah is survived by her mother DeLois Morris; daughters: Alisha Reese and TaRae (Fred) Peoples; siblings: Beverly (Fred) Falkner, Sharone (Thomas) Taylor, James (Cheryl) Morris, and Ralph (Annette) Falkner; grandchildren: Alyse Peoples, Michaela Reese, Michelle Reese, Alyssa Peoples, Kennedy Reese, Princeton Peoples, and Kherington Peoples; Special friend: Lon V. Goodin and a host of family and friends.

Rosetta L. Herron was born October 11, 1927 to O.C. Joseph and Carrie Mayberry-Joseph. She entered into rest on September 8, 2018.

Rosetta attended Kellom elementary, then went on to Central High School until the 11th grade. She worked as a housekeeper for many years and then she worked as a janitor at Tip Top. From Tip Top she worked at University Hospital until she retired 1995. After she retired, she joined the foster grandparent program starting at Boystown National Hospital in the playroom. She would visit with the children that had surgery so that their parents could take a break and run errands. When she left Boystown she became Grandma Rosetta to the students and staff at Druid Hill Elementary until August 24th, 2018.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur Herron, brothers Harold, O.C. Joseph Jr, and Willie Joseph, sisters Lenora Wickware, Frances Hill, Mary Jo Williams, and great granddaughter Danayasia K. Joseph. She is survived by her daughter, Rosetta Renee Joseph, Son-in-law Clarence Tobias, brother John W. Joseph, and sister Linda Jones. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amber M. Joseph, Alexis S. Joseph, Richard A. Joseph, Nathaniel Cook I; great grandchildren: Aariha R. Joseph, Nautica Y. Joseph, Nariya K. Joseph, and Nathaniel L. Joseph; and many, many other family members, and friends.

Richard Lee Harris, born August 6, 1932 in Dallas, Texas, completed his earthly work and answered the Lord’s call to “Come Home” on September 4, 2018, age 86.

He is preceded in death his parents, Richard and Mary (Balch) Harris; his wife, Juanita Ruth (Cameron) Harris; his brother, George A. Harris; and his sister-in-law, Setsuko Harris.

Richard served in the United States Air Force as a Chaplain Services Specialist and while stationed at the now closed Loring Air Force Base located in Limestone, Maine, he met his wife, Juanita Ruth Cameron during the summer of 1953.  They were married on September 2, 1954 and in1958 a military assignment transferred him and his family to Alaska.

After several years of military assignments around the country, Richard separated from the United States Air Force in 1967 and settled his family in Limestone, Maine. He worked for the Civil Service Commission at Loring Air Force Base until he retired in the 1990’s.  He also served in the Army National Guard of Maine from 1977 to 1986 and retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1992.

While living in Limestone he served on the Limestone Budget Committee and Planning Board Committee for several years. He also did the ground work for the naming and numbering of streets and roads within the Limestone town limits for the State of Maine E-911 Program.

He is survived by his children: Bonita Hopper and husband, Ralph of Cedar Bluffs, NE and Dale Harris and wife Karen of Christchurch, New Zealand; his grandsons: Rev. Erik Boulier and wife Pam of Ripon, WI, Gene Hopper and wife Michelle, Chris Hopper and wife Katie, and Josh Hopper all of Omaha, NE; his great granddaughters: Riley Boulier of Ripon, WI and Ayla Jane (AJ) Hopper of Omaha, NE; his sister Thelma Kitty Brady and husband David of Wenatchee, WA and several nieces and nephews. A Private Family Service will be held on September 11, 2018 at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Omaha, NE.

Passed away peacefully on September 3, 2018 at home in Omaha. Preceded in death by parents, Harold and Bernice (Heitschusen) Nelson. Survived by husband, Dr. James Bane; brother, Gordon (Rachel Wise) Nelson; step-sister, Karen Johnson; step-brother, LeRoy Munson. Also survived by step-children, Mark (Leda) Bane; Diana Troudt; Dan (Hanan) Bane; step-grandchildren, Leda (Alex) Brodal, Indiana Castellanos, Ellen Bane, Derek Troudt, Darren Troudt, Hayden Troudt and Ryan Bane; step-great grandchildren Oliver Brodal and Beau Bane Dhuyvetter. Jan leaves behind  her four-legged boys, Teddy and Bailey. She was a beacon of light and laughter to her many cousins and lifelong friends.  Besides family and friends, Jan filled her life with travel, quilting, knitting, book clubs, and Tai Chi. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at Lauritzen Gardens and the Healing Gift Free Clinic at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church. She enjoyed a long career in Omaha as a Medical Technologist.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, September 9th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Roeder Mortuary 108th St. Chapel. Funeral Service: September 10th at 11am at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, 2650 Farnam Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Healing Gift Free Clinic, the Nebraska Humane Society or Lauritzen Gardens.
