Jacqueline A. Pospisil

9/30/1934 – 4/7/2018

A lifelong Omahan whose roots were deep in Benson, Jackie died peacefully in hospice at Brookestone Meadows while surrounded by her family and having received superlative care from the facility’s staff and the Visiting Nurses Association.

Jackie was the only child of the late Al and Edith Snyder. She grew up in Benson, attending Benson West Elementary and graduating from Benson High School in 1952.

At Omaha University, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority, Jackie completed her bachelor’s degree in 1956 and started a long career with the Omaha Public Schools. She taught kindergarten at Kellom and Franklin Elementary Schools until 1961, when she left education to begin a family. Once Stu and Steve were old enough, she returned to OPS as a kindergarten teacher for one year at Belvedere Elementary before joining the OPS central office as a Community Counselor/Student Personnel Assistant for the next 21 years before retirement in 1996. In that time she completed two more degrees from UNO.

Jackie married Paul Pospisil on June 27, 1959, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson. Paul’s cousin, Helen Kuncl, taught with Jackie and played “matchmaker.” Paul and Jackie celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2009, with Paul passing away in April 2010. Their family now consists of son and daughter-in-law Stu and Sherry Pospisil, son and son-in-law Steve Pospisil and Brian Gilligan and twin grandsons Adam and Kyle Pospisil, all of Omaha; and beloved pet Pumpkin.

Those wonderful friends who became family over the years included the Coxes, Mortons, Quists, Roods, Grigers, Butterfields, Crooms, Schumachers, Cipollas, Quinlivans and Johnsons.

Jackie enjoyed all holidays, but Halloween was HERS. She had a quarter-century tradition of weekend-long open houses. She enjoyed reading mysteries, compiling photo albums and scrapbooks and watching on TV any football game played in the snow. But tops on that list was spending time with her grandsons. Always the organizer, she loved her breakfast, lunch and dinner groups that included the Benson Class of 1952ers, the Silver Sigmas and the S&B group.

Jackie was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran. She was a 38-year active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, chairing many committees and boards, serving on Nebraska Synod committees and volunteering in so many other ways.

Jackie was inducted into the Benson High Hall of Fame in 1992 and was a PTA honorary life member. She was a past president of the Fontenelle Elementary PTA and the Benson High Booster Club and the Omaha alumnae chapter of Sigma Kappa.

We would like to thank all of you for your prayers, concern and thoughtfulness showed to Jackie and all of us, especially in the past several months. The medical teams at Methodist, Nebraska Medicine and Brookestone Meadows displayed extraordinary compassion and care for Jackie. It will not be forgotten and it will keep an eternal smile on Jackie’s face.

Visitation: Tuesday 5:30 – 7:30 PM at Roeder Mortuary – 108th St. Chapel; Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday (4/11/2018) at St. Paul United Methodist Church 5410 Corby Street Omaha, Nebraska, Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery Omaha, Nebraska
