Kogele, Patricia A., March 6, 1936 – November 17, 2017, passed away in Omaha, NE. She was a resident of Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Special Care Center.

Pat Kogele was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Robert and Gertrude (Burr) McGill.

When she was young, Pat loved to swim and play piano. While attending North High School, she was a highly-awarded marksman on the school’s competitive shooting team. Pat had many friends and enjoyed parties, school dances, and social events.

After graduation, Pat went to work at Mutual of Omaha, where she met and later married Richard Carritt. Together they raised two children, Kim and Kevin.

Pat was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, studying history of all types, and always helped with her children’s school and extracurricular activities, including Girl Scouts, and PTA. She had a philanthropic spirit and loved animals.

Pat was an enthusiastic, lifelong learner. She began pursuing a degree in education while her children were still young, earning her bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate. After a divorce, she started working for the Omaha Public School District and later continued her education, earning two Masters Degrees, one in counseling and one in education.

During her career in education she had many roles, including classroom teacher, principal, and counselor, the latter she found especially rewarding. Pat helped to run a summer camp for disabled kids, and volunteered for years at CASA, as a court appointed child advocate for abused and neglected children. Pat retired from OPS in 2002.

Pat married Mel Kogele, in the late 70’s and happily became stepmother to Mel’s adult children. The couple enjoyed entertaining their many friends and family, and went on many marvelous adventures together. Sadly, Mel passed away in 2007.

Pat was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church in Omaha.

Pat was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Melvin Kogele; parents, Robert and Gertrude (Burr) McGill; and brother, Robert McGill

She is survived by her children Kim Wagner (Virgil Wagner); Kevin Carritt  (Caroline); Don Kogele; Neal Kogele (Becky) ; and Linda Roman (Christopher); as well as ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marlys  Lorraine Johnson, 97, died on November 17, 2017 at Midlands Hospital, Omaha Nebraska.  A Family Service will be held at Roder Mortuary. Marlys was born October 17, 1920 to Frank and Adella Pranke in Bremen Township, North Dakota.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon, two brothers, Vernon Pranke, Eldon Pranke, and one sister, Maxine Thordson. She was a graduate of Fessenden High School. She attended Valley City State Teachers College, graduating with a Teaching Certificate.  She taught K-12 in Cathay, Bowden, and New Rockford North Dakota schools.  She married Vernon Johnson in Moorhead, Minnesota on November 26, 1948.  They lived in Moorhead Minnesota, Fargo North Dakota, Omaha Nebraska, Berkeley Heights New Jersey, and Bella Vista Arkansas.She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary in Bella Vista, The Bella Vista Garden Club, and several bridge groups.  She loved College Football, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. She is survived by one sister in law, Joyce Pranke, Fessenden North Dakota, two sons, Gregory (Nancy) Johnson, Denver Colorado, Doug Johnson (Krista), Omaha Nebraska, and a daughter, Marcia (Mark) Jewett, Omaha Nebraska.  She was also blessed with 11 Grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Jan was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska by her parents Robert and Ruth Schleu. She had a younger brother Bob, whom she loved very much. Jan grew up in the Benson area and graduated from Benson High School in 1955. Jan was involved in many activities, social groups, and within the church throughout her life.
Jan married the love her life, Jim, on September 28, 1956. They spent 61 years together. Jan was the mother of three daughters Karen, Kim, and Vicki; a mother-in-law to Steven; a grandmother to Nicole, Steven, Amy, Jimmy, Katie, and Destiny; and a great-grandmother to Hailey, Hannah, Hunter, Jaeda, Jack, Caleb, Lulu and Bentley.
It was Jan’s focus to take care of her husband and family. Family was very important to Jan. She would sacrifice her own happiness in order for her family to have what they needed. She was supportive, loving, and a fantastic listener. Jan was the glue that held her family together. Her mantra to them was, “Keep the triangle strong!” She always wanted them to be close and stay connected.
Jan loved spending time with her family and friends. She would open up her heart and home for others to gather and celebrate special occasions. Jan became a, “2nd Mom,” to many of her daughters’ friends. Jan looked after and cared for everyone. Jan enjoyed cooking, shopping, dancing, playing cards and listening to Elvis Presley. She also loved being around water. She enjoyed going boating and taking rides on a jet ski with her son in law Steven. Jan loved talking with others and always looked forward to her daily contact with her daughters and grandchildren. She always voiced how proud she was of her family. In her eyes, they could do nothing wrong.
Jan worked in the Physical Therapy Department at Immanuel Hospital for 26 years. She loved her job and all the people she worked with. Jan  was often referred to as, “the mother hen,” around the department because of how well she cared for and looked over so many of her coworkers.
Jan was diagnosed with cancer and fought for 15 years to keep making memories with the ones she loved. Her strong faith is what helped get her through the years of pain and suffering. Jan was never one to complain about her struggles – and was known as our, ” tough ol’ bird.”
Up until her last breath, Jan fought for her time with others. She wanted to keep going, to keep living – to keep loving…
Jan will be missed by so many – but never forgotten.

Toni Lee Wilburn age 58 of Omaha, NE passed away on November 10, 2017 in Omaha.

Toni was born on April 30, 1959 in Omaha, NE to Jack and Ardith (McKay) Wilburn.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Toni is survived by her significant other; Cody Chapman, sister; Kim Pagnano (Joe), brother; Jack Wilburn (Beverly), nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Joy was born Florence Joy Harrington on January 5, 1918 in Westfield Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Florence Harrington. She graduated from Westfield High School and eventually ended up in Omaha.  She was a house keeper for several families near Saddle Creek and Leavenworth Streets.  She often walked by a service station where Wilbur Wayne Weigel worked.  They met and married on March 3, 1940.  Their daughter, Sharon Joy, was born on October 29, 1941.

Joy loved to cook, bake and garden.   Camping was a favorite pastime of Joy and Wayne’s and she continued to camp in their Hi-Lo camper for years, even after Wayne passed.  Crocheting and other crafts kept her busy.  She would make pot holders and holiday decorations and hand them out to us.  Joy is survived by two grandchildren, Shelly (Rich) Howdle, and Jeff (Lisa) Morris and 5 great grandkids: Alex, Ally and Sam Howdle, Ellie and Carson Morris; Sister Ann Maynard and nephews: Jay Maynard and Rob (Abby) Maynard.  Joy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Farrel, Wilbur, Walter Jay; Sister: Gertrude; daughter: Sharon Morris; husband: Wilbur.

Granny, you are at peace and we are pretty sure someone like you is in heaven with everyone who already passed. There’s a huge line of hugs waiting for you up there. We are all glad to be a part of your life.  We love you, miss you, appreciate you and thank you for the many years of “Joy”. Not to mention the recipes and memories but most of all your humor. God bless you.
