10/12/1931 – 5/7/2017
L.G. Harrison, son of the late Les and Ruby Harrison, was born in Kemper County, MS on October 12, 1931. He completed his assignment on earth and was called home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2017.
L.G. received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at young age when he attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. He adopted the Book of Proverbs as his rule for living and developed a strong work ethic when he set out at a young age to join the United States Marine Corps. L.G. was stationed at Paris Island, South Carolina where he completed basic training. Following that, he was then stationed in Quantico, VA at Camp Upshur and South Korea as an MP during the Korean War. In 1955, L.G. moved to Omaha, NE after visiting relatives. There he became active in the community, particularly developing an interest in auto mechanics, hot rods, and sports. He opened his own garage, played for the Armor Packing House Union’s recreational basketball team; the Omaha Cardinals baseball team, and was a member of two hot rod clubs, The Gear Grinders, and The Untouchables. L.G. served actively in the Corps for two years and the Ready Reserve for 18 ½ years until he was medically discharged following an automobile accident. The doctors claimed he would never walk again, but his unwavering determination proved them wrong.
L.G. met, and fell in love with Shirley Crossley, and the two were united in holy matrimony on July 13, 1962. To this union, eleven children were born: Richard, Leslie, Maurice, Catherine, Lisa, Valerie, Dale, Diana, Gayla, Vicente and Carla. L.G. would later become surrogate father to many.
L.G. worked as a meter reader for MUD and would later explore his love for animals at Aksarben where he walked horses. He later obtained his license to become a certified horse trainer and experienced much success with the horses he trained. He would continue with Aksarben until they shut their doors in 1995.
In March of 2016, L.G. fell ill and proceeded to journey through one of the toughest battles of his life. Though courageous, he received his final orders from the Lord to return home. While he will be missed by many, he left a legacy that will continue for generations to come.
L.G. was preceded in death by his parents, Les and Ruby Harrison, sister Lessie Burns; grandson Leslie, granddaughters Kyra and Kamara Johnson. His love and devotion will ever be felt through his wife of 54 years, Shirley, and their beloved children: Richard (Tia) Oak Park, IL; Leslie (Leah) Lake Oswego, OR; Maurice (Lynn) and Catherine Banks (Ernest) all of Omaha, NE; Lisa Jackson (Nathaniel) and Valerie Harrison, all of McKinney, TX; Dale (Tisha) White Plains, MD; Diana Johnson (Ojay) Charlotte, NC; Gayla Harrison, Omaha, NE; Vicente (Rachel) Lake Oswego, OR; Carla Griffin (Lance) Omaha, NE; he is also survived by his sisters Levie Nabors (Lou Sr.) and Mary. His legacy will forever carry on in his 26 grandchildren, one great grandchild, host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
