6/27/1951 – 3/9/2017

Omaha – Lt. Col. William J. (Bill) Reh, Jr. of Omaha passed away on 3/9/17. Bill, the son of William J. Reh and Irene (Boytin) Greene, was born in Kingston, PA on 6/27/51. After graduating from high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Army, he attended Wilkes College graduating in 1976 and receiving a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the Air Force. He served as an intelligence officer with tours in the US, Germany, and Korea retiring from SAC HQ at Offutt AFB on 7/31/97. After his retirement, Bill worked for a short time as a defense contractor and then as a Department of the Air Force civilian at SAC HQ and US Strategic Command, retiring on 3/1/17, having served his country for over 45 years.

Bill was an avid shooter, participating in the NRA sponsored events each year at Camp Perry, Ohio as well as other local events. He was an active Mason and Shriner, a member of the G. W. Lininger Lodge #268, AF & AM, Omaha Valley Scottish Rite, and the Tangier Shrine.

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Byrnes) Reh and his son Will, beloved pets Kristan, Scooby, Buddy and Skippy. Visitation will be held at the Roeder Mortuary 2727 N 108th Street Omaha, NE. on March 17^th from 5 PM until 7 PM with a Masonic service at 7 PM. The funeral will be held on Saturday March 18^th at 1 PM at the mortuary. Bill is to be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in the near future. Charles Kimes was born June 7, 1929 in Winona, Mississippi to Frank and Viola (Elmore) Kimes.   “Charlie” was one of twelve children.

He learned the value of hard work from his father and his mother exemplified faith and prayer in their home.  Charles accepted Christ at an early age.   He worked hard to support his family first in Louisville Kentucky and then later in Durant Mississippi.

Charles eventually worked his way to Omaha, Nebraska in the mid-1960s on the invitation of his brother Samuel, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force.  He worked as a machinist with Vickers Inc., but during times of layoffs, he held a variety of other jobs to support his family.  He finally retired from Vickers after 28 years of service.  Not being one to ever sit still, he immediately began a second career as a Westlake Hardware Sales Associate.  He even had a hauling business, so in addition to providing for his family, he helped other families move their households.

Charles found abundant joy in church service.  He faithfully served as a Deacon, van driver, Men’s Ministry member, and wherever or however, he was needed at Pilgrim Baptist Church.  He loved his PBC family and they equally loved him.

His past times included maintaining his home and yard, cultivating his vegetable garden, and fixing vehicles of any make and model.

He was very special and very unique.  Charles was consistently patient and kind to whomever he came in contact with.  He didn’t hesitate to offer an encouraging word or share a laugh.

Charles married Lillian Anthony in 1963.  They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in November 2013 shortly before Lillian’s passing.

God saw fit to call him home on March 11, 2017 to be reunited with his wife, parents, brothers, sisters, and other family members who have gone before him.

He will be sadly missed by four sons:  Eddie Charles (Violeta) Kimes, Larry Kimes, Charles (Valeria) Smith and Cedric (Traci) Kimes; four daughters:  Brenda Marshall, Joyce Ann (Nicholas) Wright, LaSonia Kimes, & Felicia (Joe) Richardson; brother Samuel Kimes of Durant, MS and Sister Flora Bailey of Louisville, KY, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Very special thanks to Sis Barbara Smith, Louis Richardson, Winston Lee and their families.  We will always appreciate the services of MOBY Transit, DCI – Dialysis Center 33^rd and Dodge.

You may pick up the paper and read that Charles Kimes is dead.  Don’t you believe a word of it, I was born in the flesh in 1929 – I was born in the Spirit in 1941.  What’s born of the flesh will die.  But what’s born of the spirit will live forever.

Mr. Enish Gills, Jr was born on March 31, 1929 in Paris Texas to proud parents, Enish Gills and Dora Lee Lawrence. A couple of years later, Enish’s Mother moved him and his older sister, Lillie Me to Idabel, Oklahoma where she married Will Saddler. Enish was raised in Idabel by his mother and step-father until he was approximately 16 or 17 years old. He was introduced to Christ at a very early age and eve4n though he did not attend or affiliate himself with a church home; he often made reference to the need to pray and the power of God.

While living in Oklahoma City in his early 20s, he met Erma Jo Permetter, a beautiful young woman from Purcell, Oklahoma and they were married on February 8, 1953. Shortly after that, they relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, where Mr. Fills resided until his death. Ten children were born as a result of that union.

There are many extremely valuable lessons that a parent can teach his/her children and some of the most important lessons that Enish taught his children included, but are not limited to the following:

1. The importance of commitment. This, he demonstrated by remaining in the household to assist his wife in raising their children. While it might have been easy for some men to abandon such a large family, his way of demonstrating love and commitment for his family was in the fat that he didn’t leave;
2. The importance of being a BMW (Black Man Working). From the time he left his mother’s home until his retirement from Lucent Technologies he was never without a job and the ability to contribute to his family financially. This was not only a great lesson for him to impart to his sons, but also a great lesson his daughter to see to assist her in establishing expectations of the man in her life;
3. The importance of fiscal responsibility. Mr. Gills made sure that his wife and children were never presented with a single eviction notice or shut-off notice for any utilities or phone bill. While some might think that he did no more than he was supposed to do in this area, think about how many men failed to provide that example;
4. The importance of passing our blessing along and sharing them. Over the years, Mr. Gills was Uncle Enish and daddy to many others. It was not uncommon for him to open his hoe to his in-laws and their families, his siblings and their families, cousins and others. He was extremely generous and never hesitated to share with those around him;
5. The importance of acknowledging love for your family. Enish grew up in an era where it was deemed inappropriate for men to cry, hug each other and/or tell each other that you love them. It was absolutely amazing watching this man go from that to eventually becoming a man who rarely ended a phone call or face to face conversation without telling us that he loved us. What a joy and what a blessing that God would allow us and him to be around and have the opportunity to witne3s that extreme change;

Those who were not around for some of these important lessons and preceded him in death are his mother and father, stepfather, son Enish Gills III (Papa) Daughter Mary Ellen Gills, Brothers Lovord Saddler and Alvin Saddler, and sister Travel Lee Saddler.

Enish is survived by his brother, Marvin Saddler and two sisters, Lillie Mae Moore and Willie Mae Polite. He also leaves to mourn his passing eight (8) sons: Jerry Gills, Rickie Gills, Curtis (Cardella) Gills, Alvin (Regina) Gills, Marvin (Sharon) Gills, David Gills, Clifford (Tauncey) Gills of Omaha and Rodney Allen of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter Beverly (Eddie) Harris. He was blessed with a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends who will all miss him terribly.

STANLEY R BALES OF OMAHA, NE DIED 03/10/17. HE WAS BORN ON 02/24/1929 AT BONILLA, SD TO THE LATE JAMES AND LILLIE MAE (BUSSELL) BALES. HE ATTENDED BONILLA CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL THROUGH SENIOR YEAR IN 1947, HURON COLLEGE FROM 1947 THROUGH 1949.

HE WORKED IN CIVIL ENGINEERING WITH THE CITY OF HURON, SD FROM 1949 THROUGH 1950. HE WAS DRAFTED INTO THE US ARMY ON 01/18/1951. HE SERVED UNTIL10/17/1952. HE SERVED WITH THE 19^TH ENGINEER COMBAT GROUP IN THE KOREAN WAR FROM JUNE OF 1951 UNTIL APRIL OF 1952.

AFTER HIS DISCHARGE HE RETURNED TO HURON, SD IN NOVEMBER OF 1952 WORKING WITH HARRIS & PIERCE ENGINEERING CO. IN MAY OF 1953 HE WORKED FOR THE CITY OF HUROJN AS A FIELD ENGINEER UNTIL AUGUST OF 1953.

HE MARRIED AVIS E SEVERANCE ON 08/23/1953 IN HURON, SD. AVIS DIED ON 01/11/2002.

HE THEN ENROLLED AS A CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENT AT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITYWHERE HE GRADUATED WITH A B.S. IN CIVIL ENGINEERING.

HE WAS THE ASSITANT CITY ENGINEER FOR THE CITY OF HURON FROM JUNE OF 1956 THROUGH MAY OF 1957. AFTER THAT HE WAS THE CITY ENGINEER OF MITCHELL, SD FROM JUNE OF 1957 THROUGH MAY OF 1959. HE WAS EMPLOYED AS AN ENGINEER IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF OMAHA, NE. HE SERVED AS ASSISTNAT SEWER ENGINEER UNTIL NOVEMBER OF 1961 AND THEN BECAME SEWER ENGINEER THROUGH FEBRUARY OF 1963. FROM MARCH OF 1963 THROUGH JANUARY OF 1966 HE WAS A DESIGN ENGINEER. THEN FROM FEBRUARY OF 1966 THROUGH SEPTEMBER OF 1969 HE WAS A CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER.

HE STARTED WORKING FOR ELLIOT & BLACK IN OCTOBER OF 1969. HE BECAME A PARTNER AND WORKED AS A SENIOR ENGINEER FROM JUNE OF 1976 UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT ON 05/01/1991.

STAN WAS A COACH FOR YOUTH BASEBALL. HE WAS ALSO AN OFFICIAL FOR BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL. HE WAS A VETERAN OF THE KOREAN WAR AND A MEMBER OF THE VFW.

STAN IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS WIFE AVIS, HIS PARENTS, HIS 8 BROTHERS, HIS SISTER, AND HIS GRANDSON GREG STEED. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS 3 CHILDREN: DICK AND HIS WIFE DONNA AND GRANDDAUGHTER DR. Omaha, NE-Carol Ann (McFarland) Joyce, 67, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2017 surrounded by loved ones in Omaha, NE. Carol was born on August 23, 1949 in North Platte, NE to Donald Eugene McFarland, Sr. and Leora Laura (Johnson) McFarland. Carol graduated from North Platte High School in 1967. She made her home in Omaha, Nebraska for the past 26 years. Carol worked at UNMC and Creighton Medical Center as well as the DoubleTree (downtown). Carol married and divorced Jim Tevepaugh  of Anita, Iowa, and Lauren Joyce of Atlantic, Iowa. She was a devoted and loving mother of Brian Joyce of Omaha, NE and Yvonne Pringle (Thomas) of Cataula, GA. She cherished her grandchildren, Kaitlin Nicole Morse, Blaine Alexander Michael Morse, and Carter Thomas Pringle.

Preceding her in death were: Asa and Edna McFarland (grandparents); John Christ Johnson and Carrie Christina Morrison (grandparents); James and Paul Johnson (uncles); Marie Hazelrigg, Margaret Collins, Mildred Lloyd, Alice Florom (aunts); Dale McFarland (uncle); Donald Eugene McFarland, Sr. (father); Donna Lynn Peterson (sister); and, Michael Dennis McFarland (brother).
