Alberta Marie Wells

10/21/1956 – 7/24/2016

“Her smile was the greatest gift of all.”

On the morning of July 24, 2016, Alberta Marie (Taylor) Wells, 59, transitioned from earth to her heavenly home. She was comforted by the presence of her immediate family members at the time of her passing. Alberta entered the world in Kansas City, Kansas on October 21, 1956. Alberta is preceded in death by her mother, Zera M. Taylor and brother, Eddie R. Taylor. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John Wells. They were joined as one on April 6, 1981.

Alberta accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas and held fast to her belief that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior.

Alberta proudly graduated from Sumner High School in the “Class of 1974.” After high school, she earned her Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1978. She was the bright spot as manager of payroll for Union Pacific. She was very proud of her employment with the railroad of which she unselfishly worked for over 10 years.

She was and enthusiastic Scrabble player, loved to travel and was the consummate wife, mother and homemaker. Family gatherings, planned and impromptu, brought the brightest smile to her face. Alberta was truly loved and respected by family and friends.

Alberta is also survived by her daughter, Amber (Jason) Lorthridge; son, McKay Wells; grandchildren, CamRon Wells, Jacori, Jamir Lorthridge, and Ayana Lorthridge all of Omaha, Nebraska. Alberta is survived by one brother, Michael Taylor of Kansas City, Kansas; and her family’s loyal pet, Bhair-Bhair. Alberta Marie was profoundly missed even before she crossed the threshold to Heaven. She will continue to be sorely missed by a host of devoted cousins, relatives, and friends.

Mary Elizabeth Brewer

Mary Elizabeth Brewer (O’Leary), 86, Omaha, NE. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at home among her family on July 28, 2016. She was born on Sept. 11, 1929 in Breckenridge, MN to Richard and Cecelia Friederichs O’Leary. Mary moved to Iowa after high school where she met her husband of 55 years, Kenneth J Brewer. Together they lovingly raised seven children, Terry Brewer, St. George Island, FL, Teresa (Glen) Perkins, Bettendorf, IA, David (Ginny) Brewer, Albia, IA, Jim (Madeline) Brewer, Iowa City, IA, Sheila (Kent) Sedore, Ottumwa, IA, Annie Brewer, Omaha, NE, Liz (Rob) Mucciaccio, Omaha, NE. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth (2005), sisters Kathleen Feight and Patricia O’Leary and brothers Richard, Fred and Tom O’Leary. She is survived by her children, 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, her sister Sharon Bishop, Rogers, AR, her brother John O’Leary, Des Moines, IA, sister-in-law Irene (Doyle) Gripp, Chariton, IA, special friend Paul McDermott and countless other friends and relatives. Mary will always be fondly remembered for her pressed white blouses, her baking and sewing talents as well as her compassion for animals and people less fortunate. After owning and operating an auto parts store in Albia, Iowa for 30+ years, she and Kenny lived in several places including Centerville, IA, Pueblo West, CO, and Van Buren, AR. They also volunteered as missionaries on a Navajo Indian reservation in both Thoreau and San Fidel, NM. Mary resided at Maple Ridge Retirement Community in Omaha for the last 10 years. She was a devout Catholic attending St. Elizabeth Ann and St. Vincent DePaul parishes in Omaha. She was a member of PEO Chapter FK in Omaha. Mary was one-of-a-kind, never to be replaced and always to be missed. Memorial service 3pm Saturday, August 6, Maple Ridge Retirement Community, 3525 N. 167th Circle, Omaha. Irja Sylvia Ellsworth

4/17/1929 – 7/18/2016

Papillion – Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, Sylvia moved to the United States as a young adult, where soon after, she married Bob Ellsworth, her husband of 60 plus years. Together they raised four children. Her working years were spent at Parker Pen, the USPS and OPS. In retirement, she spent countless hours as a volunteer. Directing ” The La Vista Old Timer’s Band” was her favorite activity. She enjoyed writing poetry, watching sports on TV, and politics. She also loved the 3 C’s :  Coffee, cribbage and cold weather.  Irja Sylvia Ellsworth was ever proud of her Finnish heritage, and though she has departed this life, her Finnish “sisu” lives on in all of her children.

Sylvia is survived by children Kelly (Linda) Ellsworth, Ross (Patty) Ellsworth and Kristen (Dave) Malmstrom, all of Omaha, and Joan (Steve) Walker of Tekamah, NE.  Grandchildren: Shelly, Wendy, Amy, Ben, and Sam and 5 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Your passing seems unreal. Your telephone rings and no answer. A better friend I cannot find. A loving caring mother. I’ll always remember the good times, the special moments and the mother and daughter memories that will never fade over time. Mom you will be missed but forever loved. Your daughter, Kristen.

Katherine Maria Green

Katherine Maria Green was born the 5th of six girls (and an infant brother) to Elijah and Dora Johnson on December 16th, 1928. Early on Katherine had a love for education and English. She did so well in school she skipped the third grade. She went on to graduate from Omaha Technical High School in 1945. She had aspirations of becoming a registered nurse; however, the initiative for the RN program ended due to the end of the war effort and she was unable to pursue that goal. Katherine then began her career working as a housekeeper. She went on to work for Douglas County Hospital and in 1960 began work at the U.S. Postal Service where she worked for 31 years. She retired from the post office in 1992 and discovered that work was her hobby. She returned to work for 13 more years at the Red Cross.

Katherine was an avid reader. If she wasn’t reading a book she could be found reading the newspaper or studying her Bible and Sunday School lessons. She was a Jeopardy enthusiast and a huge fan of Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed sports of every kind.

Katherine was a fan-tastic cook! People everywhere enjoyed her Thanksgiving dressing, one of her specialties. Others of her specialties include: macaroni and cheese, scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, greens, fried, baked, and barbeque chicken, pies, and cakes including pineapple upside down cake, German-chocolate cake, and 7-up cake and a myriad of other dishes.

Katherine was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church before they erected the facility on John Creighton Blvd. She was a faithful member and servant of the Mt. Nebo Sunday School, Missions Guild, and Usher Board and served in various capacities over the years. Katherine was involved in the Urban League Guild as well as other civic groups.

She was a lover of humanity. She went out of her way to help others and extend opportunities to them. She lived by The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters: Carrie, Helen, Emma, Mary, and Lillian; one infant brother; children: David Eugene Green and Sharon Lynne Green. She is survived by son, Michael Leroy Green, daughter-in-law, Sharon Patricia Green, and daughter, Lisa Joyce (Conway) Green; fourteen grandchildren; 28 great grand-children; and 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other family, friends, and loved ones.

VISITATION Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 6-8pm at Roeder Mortuary 108th Street Chapel.  FUNERAL SERVICE Friday, July 29, 2016 at 10am Mt. Nebo Baptist Church 5501 N. 50th Street.  Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Ralph H. Brueggemann

2/16/1930 – 7/19/2016

Ralph was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 16, 1930 and a lifelong resident, passing away on July 19, 2016.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953.  He was employed by several Omaha-based offset printing companies as a production manager.   Following retirement, he continued employment for Osco Corporation, primarily as a seasonal employee of the company’s green houses.  A graduate of Omaha North High School, he earned credits at Metropolitan Community College where he pursued study of one his key lifelong interests, photography.  He enjoyed many outdoor interests, particularly gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping and backpacking with his wife, children and grandchildren.  Memorable trips included a number of visits to Canada and western United States destinations.  Also a gifted wood-worker, he enhanced the family home with multiple projects over the years, as well that of his children.   Ralph also believed strongly in saving the lives of others and to that end was a regular blood donor on behalf of the American Red Cross, so much so that he eventually earned a Ten-Gallon donor pin, a truly remarkable achievement.

He is predeceased by his parents, Theodore William and Lena as well as a sister, Helen Billings and brother Paul.  He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Evelyn, daughters, Linda Tripp (Steve), Susan Tabor (Mike), Cheryl Goodwillie (Mike) and son Michael Brueggemann (Jana) as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Betty L. Rundlett

July 10, 1933 – July 12, 2016

 Entered into her heavenly home with her husband and only daughter by her side. She was born in Omaha to Richard McGraw and Donaldine Warrington. She graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1951, where she was very involved in journalism and music. She took her training as a registered nurse at the Nebraska Medical Center, and later earned her Masters Degree in Counseling/Administration at the then Omaha University. She began her nursing career at University Hospital supervising the male medicine ward. She then teamed with Minnie Schaeffer to establish Booth Memorial Hospital serving geriatric patients. After the birth of her daughter, wanting to be home during the day, she returned to University Hospital working nights in the Emergency Room. In 1966 she joined the Omaha Public Schools as a school nurse. During her time in the schools, she served students at Laura Dodge Elementary, Morton Junior High School, and Technical High School. Readily recognized for her leadership qualities, she was promoted to be the assistant to Rena Mae Gibson, the Supervisor of Health Services. Upon Miss Gibson’s retirement, she assumed the duties of Supervisor of Health Services until her retirement in 1991. During her tenure she was best known for her strong support of increased nursing services in the schools, and the development of the first OPS Sex Education Program. Her faith was a large part of her life and she was very involved in her church. She sang in the choir; taught Sunday School, especially loving the pre-schoolers; and was active in the Women’s Ministries. She loved to travel and attending the opera. Hers was a life of generosity. She enjoyed crafts and baking, especially when she was making something for someone else. She and her husband were responsible for the table decorations for the welcoming dinners held by their church’s Alpha Outreach Ministries program. She enjoyed entertaining and hosted an annual tea for her nurses, the family Christmas gathering, and the annual family picnic. Church missionaries were always welcome in her home during their respite in Omaha. She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence “Larry” Rundlett, and daughter, Dr. Rebecca Rundlett and husband Thomas Starr, Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her brothers, James Hutchison and Gerald Hutchinson, both of Springfield, NE, and Edward Hutchinson and wife Deirdre, Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Donna Kluza, and her brothers, Richard McGraw and Robert Hutchinson.

VISITATION 6-8pm Friday and CELEBRATION OF LIFE Saturday at 11am, with all services at First Covenant Church, 201 N. 90th Street. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, VNA Home Health-Hospice, and Covenant Cedars Bible Camp.
