Dan J. Orlich, Age 89, loving husband, father and grandfather crossed over Saturday, August 26th in Omaha, NE at home with his wife Kay, daughter Dana and granddaughter Daniele at his side. He was born on January 31, 1928 in East Chicago, Indiana to Dominic and Mary (Music) Orlich.
Dan attended Holy Trinity Elementary School, graduated Bishop Noll High School in 1945 and attended college at Denver University. He played football for the University of Wisconsin and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he also received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education (1952) and went on to earn his Masters of Education Degree at Indiana University.
He married Kay Kikalos on May 16, 1955. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Kay, daughters; Dana and Claire, sons; Jeff, Dominic and John (Sheryl), grandchildren; Daniele, Alex, Nico and Miles, sister; Florence Verbich (late John).
Dan was preceded in death by sister; Valerie Orlich, brothers; William and John Orlich.
Due to his caring and patient personality he deeply touched the lives of his students, coaching and teaching at Franklin Elementary School in East Chicago. Dan’s charisma, humor, and natural warmth brought a following of beloved friends and customers to Kay and Danny’s restaurant, The Green House. He enjoyed sports, reading, playing golf, spending time in Jamaica with Kay and providing a blessed life for his family. Danny Orlich inspired the lives of everyone he came in contact with until the day he passed. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Dan’s life will be held in Omaha, NE at a later date.
