8/5/1960 – 9/9/2016
Daphne Fry, “Daf” was born in Inglewood, California to Norm and Iris Fry. But her bossy two year old big Sissy, Gina, declared herself to be the one really in charge of this spunky little human who people would go on to be called Chatty Cathy. Her daring ways would get her into more than a few scrapes – some minor and some less so. (Doesn’t everyone wonder what happens if you kick start a motorcycle with your arm instead of your foot?) As a missionary kid in South America her vivacious personality won her friends in every culture she encountered.
After high school Daf trained as a nurse at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, California, graduating in 1981 with her Associates Degree. She worked as an L.P.N. for 35 years in California and Nebraska. Areas of practice included Emergency Room, private doctor’s office, home health care, HMO nurse management, university student health, and community health.
Daphne contracted viral meningitis at age 7. This would emerge at age 21 as a highly significant health event, and be thought the underlying cause of a severe and lifelong headache and neurological syndrome. From the time her headaches began she was never again pain free. Two brain surgeries would remove some pressure from scarred brain ventricles. Many teams of doctors would try to help. Her life journey would see much terrain of suffering. But Daphne proved a faithful Christ Follower, always claiming God to be good, and life to be beautiful.
Until her health challenges no longer permitted it, she loved working with the youth in her church who adored her for her zany humor.
She had many, many friends. Her best pals were her first ones – Mom and Dad.
Daphne was the funny and generous “Affie Daf” to her precious nephew and niece, Elliott and Laurelin Sterns. She was her sister Gina’s biggest cheerleader. She loved and respected her brother in law and colleague, Dr. David Sterns. When Dan Nesbitt joined the family by marrying Laurelin in 2010, Daf welcomed him as another dear nephew. These last two years Daf’s struggles increased dramatically. But nothing could ever diminish her enthusiasm for a visit from her little Rose Evageline, born 10/23/14. Being present for Rose’s birth and watching her learn to crawl, walk, and speak filled her heart with joy unspeakable these last two years, even as her body was wearing out.
Absent from the body, present with the Lord.

Dear Noem and Iris,
Even though we never had the privilege to meet your daughter through news from John and Carol we felt like we knew her. You two were such a blessing to our family or at least a part of it who lived in Paraguay. I believe that our Grandkids even called you Grandmom and Grandpop for a time. We prayed when we heard of Daphne’s headaches Jack suffered for many years with migraines periodically at least once a week or more. The pain she experienced for so long is not even a memory now. It is so hard to imagine the pain involved with the loss you are experiencing .We can only say that we will be praying for the comfort straight to your hearts fom His. Her life’s testimony was a blessing to read . In life and in death your lovely daughter brought glory to her Lord. You have much to be proud of .

Mr. and Mrs. Fry, I’m very sorry for your loss.
Dear Norm and Iris,
Our hearts are aching with you and your family during this time, and we pray for God’s comfort.
We are so thankful for Daphne’s testimony! We have been reminded of her so many times, and blessed, as our team has used the Praise Chorus Books that she donated to our field so long ago.
We love you!
I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter, sister, and aunt. Daphne was such a joy to be around. I am so glad that I had the privilege to be her friend and roommate. We had such wonderful times together with the College and Career group at E V Free Orange and working with the youth there as well. Her laughter and smile were infectious, and she brought much to many. I am grateful for the hope of the resurrection and the knowledge that I will see her again.
Blest be the tie that binds,
Anna (Hoos) Isbell
Nellie and I heard today about Daphne’s homegoing. Our time with her was always a neat and sweet time while she was in Paraguay. All the other MKs loved to be around Daphne because she had such a bubbly personality and was very encouraging to others. This has to be a very hard time for you to go through, but praise the Lord, although Daf is absent from the body, she is present with the Lord.
We love you and our prayers are with you,
Dear Norm & Iris,

What a shock to read this this morning. Norm and Iris, I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort you as only He can.
Wow, I got a text on Sunday in church from someone saying that Dafne had gone to be with the Lord. I had heard tidbits of Dafne’s health struggles. I am trying to remember when I last saw her. It must have been sometime in high school there in Asuncion. I will always remember her for her smile, her joy. I am so sorry for your loss Iris, Norm, Gina and family. May God’s peace and love fill that ache in your souls. She is finally headache free and enjoying the company of her Heavenly Father. It has been a very long time, but you all are part of a very dear extended family of mine. Love, Jerry Cole
I will always remember Daphne for JOY in the Lord. Daphne’s smile and trust in the Lord Jesus made a lasting difference in my life. It was an honor to know her for a short time. I am so sorry for your loss. God bless you. Gayle Hayes

We were so sorry to hear this news, but rejoice that dear Daphne is now pain-free and walking the streets of gold. I’m sure she will stop to visit with our own Pamela – just hope they don’t get into too much mischief.
Our prayers and hugs are with you during this time of sorrow and transition. We know what it is like to lose a child – never easy at any age.
Much love,
Paul and Claudia Heckart
