A limb has fallen from the tree. Joseph A. Ketchmark, 70, of Omaha, NE passed away peacefully on Friday August 18, 2017.
Joe is survived by his wife Carla of 48 years, sons Shawn (Heidi) and Cory, grandchildren Rachel, Justin, Laurel and Kensley, brothers Frank (Peggy), John (Diane), and Bernard, sisters Patricia (Dan) Rathe, Colleen (Rick) Pedersen, Mary (Chet) Dierberger, Michala Kay (Doug) Schultz, Ann (Tim) Russell, Teresa (Gene) Freeman and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Joe was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
Joe was born in Spalding, NE to John and Clare on Saturday February 8, 1947. He went to school in Burwell NE. He married Carla Harrold on Sunday, April 12, 1969. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He worked as Field Office Supervisor for the FDIC for 32 years. After retirement he continued consulting for numerous banks around the midwest. He served on the board of directors for Bank of Fullerton, First Foundation Bank and The Nehawka Bank.
Joe loved life and he loved people. He made friends like that was what your were supposed to do everyday. After Joe retired he found a joy in volunteering. He volunteered at the Holland Center, Orpheum Theater and the Community Playhouse. He was very active with the Knights of Columbus. He liked to tinker and when he was happy he would be humming. He would hum all the time. His true love is his wife of 48 years and his grandchildren. His grandchildren, probably because they share the same warped sense of humor and evil guilty grin. The true meaning of “Joy” when a man and his grandchildren laugh so hard that it has to be contagious. He will be missed.
A special thank you to the Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick’s in Gretna and all his friends and family for their loving care and support.St Patrick Catholic Church 508 W. Joe was an especially kind and gentle person to work with at the Holland Performing Arts Center and at the Orpheum Theatre. Peace be with you. With sympathy and prayers, Dodie and Charlie Graham
Our thoughts and prayers to Carla and Family on your loss. Joe will be missed by all who knew him. The world has lost truly one of the good guys
Prayers to the Ketchmatk family. I worked with Joe some while with FDIC, and visited with him at State Wrestling. A very nice man.
The phrase “remember the time” comes to mind when I think of Joe because we instinctively commit our special times to memory…and when you were with Joe it was generally a memorable time – with the occasional misadventure – that always seem to include several good old-fashioned belly laughs. Although I will dearly miss him, I’m also grateful for those “remember the time” moments we shared that I will always carry with me.
Thoughts and prayers for the family. We were neighbors when the Ketchmark’s lived by Burwell. A great family to have the privilege of knowing and calling friends.
Joe was a great leader and servant at the Holland and Orpheum. I’ll miss working with him. I’m praying for his family, that they find peace at this difficult time.
Irreplaceable❤️ Prayers for his family. Joe will be greatly missed.
Lifting all of you and your families up in prayer during this difficult and sad time. Our siblings have a connection to us that is special and unique in the family unit. Losing one is just like the branch you mentioned in his obituary….we go on and keep growing but somehow it never looks or feels the same way ever again but all of you, if you remain well rooted, can honor him with renewed new growth if your foundation stays strong. You have my sincere sympathy for your loss.

I am honored and blessed to have known Joe. I volunteered beside Joe for many years. He was truly a blessing in my life and the lives of my family. I will miss him. May his soul Rest In Peace.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I worked with Joe at the OPA. A good man and he will be missed.
Sorry Carla I tried to find someone to take my shift Friday so I could be there with mom & dad but no takers I guess that is the hard part of working in a hospital. I will miss Joe. Love you so much. He is no longer in pain and not alone as you are not alone. You have an entire family.
As a member of St Patrick in Gretna please know Joe will be sorrily missed by many. We worked together to administer communion to the the Gretna Community Living Center and serve as sacristan at St Patrick Church. He was always willing to help when we needed a volunteer. St Patrick has lost a good man. May Joe rest in Peace. My sincere wishes for your family to take comfort in knowing Joe will be your angel to pray to during good times and hard times. Take care to the entire family.
To all of you, I am so sorry for your lost. Joe was one hell of a guy! Met him once and he never missed speaking to me from then on. It is so sad for those of us left behind but he will live on in your hearts and your thoughts and also in your families! He is no longer suffering. RIP Joe…you will be missed!
We are so sorry to hear that Joe has passed. Thinking of all of you.
Joe, you have been loved by all who are fortunate enough to have known you. You will be so missed.
One cannot find a more pleasant, friendly, and kind volunteer and leader at the Orpheum Theater and Omaha Playhouse. One that can never be replaced! Always smiling and laughing, he was a joy to be around and will be truly missed! RIP dear Joe!
Joe and I worked together for many years, but the work only supplied the money to provide for our families. What Joe was about was more important – living one’s life to the fullest, embracing his family, and making the world a better place. Joe was a wonderful guy, had a sly smile, a big heart, and loved the company of people. We are all the better for having known him. RIP, my friend; we know that you are undoubtedly organizing something fun for everyone upstairs…
We are so sorry to hear that Joe has passed. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.
We are so terribly sorry for your loss, the Ketchmark family will not be the same. Joe was warm and kind and made the worlds best popcorn. There is without a doubt another angel in heaven. God’s blessing to you all and Peace.
I used to work with Joe at the Holland Performing Arts and the Orpheum ten years ago. He was a lovely, special person. He may have died way too early, but he touched so many of us. My condolences to his family and friends. I know he’ll be missed.
