3/31/1943 – 4/28/2017
Joyce Lee Gandy was born on March 31, 1943 to George W. Bolton, Sr. of Dover, Missouri and Maggie Bolton of Lexington, Missouri.
Joyce attended Long Elementary and Tech High School. She graduated with her Associates Degree in Business Administration. She enjoyed dancing, singing, music and she was very voiceful and outgoing. Most of all, Joyce loved her church and church family at Mount Calvary Community Church. This was the only church that she was ever a member of. Joyce came under the ministry of Reverend Alonzo Frazier. In 1984, Bishop William H. Foeman became the watchman over her soul. When Bishop Foeman transitioned to be with the Lord, Reverend James P. Walker became her Pastor, up until the day when the angels took her home.
Joyce was a long-time employee at U.S. West Direct Telephone Company and after being there for so many years, she finally retired. In addition, until her health began to fail, she was a faithful member of the Eastern Star.
Joyce was united in marriage to Leon Gandy and from this union, they have 4 beautiful children: Lazette Bolton of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Latosha Harlan of Omaha, Nebraska, Leon Bolton, Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona; and one step-son, Anthony Houston of Nashville, Tennessee.
Out of all the wonderful things in Joyce’s life, she was baptized and she committed her life to the work of the ministry of Mount Calvary. Joyce was truly a spiritual woman of God. She was very active and devoted to the Women’s Auxiliary, the Usher Board, the Mass Choir, and one of the oldest Mime Dancers at Mount Calvary.
Joyce was quietly called home, out of this time, into eternity to forever be with the Lord on Friday, April 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Maggie; her 2 brothers: George W. Bolton, Jr. and Len (Ken) Bolton.
Joyce Lee Gandy leaves to cherish her fond memories and to carry-on the legacy of her life, her loving husband who took care of her until her departure: Leon Gandy, Sr.; 2 daughters: Lezette Bolton and Latosha Harlan (Shane); 2 sons: Leon Bolton, Jr. and Anthony Houston; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother: Ricky Bolton, Sr.; 2 sisters-in-law: Beverly Turner and Carolyn Bolton; brother-in-law: Charles Gandy; a host of nieces; 3 nephews; 4 great-nephews; a very special cousin from Kansas City, Missouri: Pamela Jackson (James; her church family and a host of other relatives and friends.
