Of Gretna, Robert William Kardell was born to Otto and Laura (Boeck) Kardell on September 1, 1927 in Shelby, Iowa. He grew up on multiple farmsteads helping his family farm. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1943 and graduated in 1945 from Avoca High School. After high school he worked as a hired hand. In 1953 he applied for a job at Bankers Life and Casualty where he worked for 60 years. In August of 1953, on a blind date, he met Darlene L Munderloh. They were married June 27, 1954. They settled in Phoenix, Arizona shortly after being married. While in Phoenix, Michael, Vicki, and Mark were born. In 1960 they relocated to Tucson, AZ. and Mathew was born. In 1967 Bob and family were relocated back to Omaha and Scott was born. In 1977 Bob and Darlene bought 40 acres of 156th and Fort and made an old farm house their home.  They treasured their time living out in the country again. Many memories were made in that home. In 1997 they relocated to Gretna where they were residing at the time of his passing. Bob took pride in his German heritage, was an avid fisherman, enjoyed Husker football on Saturdays, and never met a person he couldn’t talk to. He was very involved in his 12 grandchildren’s lives and was often heard bouncing one of his six great grandchildren on his knee singing his famous “deedle dee.” Bob passed within an hour of the birth of his 6th great grandchild, a grandson to carry on the Kardell name. 3/13/1947 – 1/17/2017

Diane Schlatter entered into eternal rest January 17, 2017 at her home in Blair, Nebraska. Diane was the daughter of William “Roscoe” and Loretta Dingle. She grew up in Omaha with her sisters, Bev and Sharon. Diane married Jim Schlatter and moved to “the farm” outside of Fremont where they raised their daughter Laura.

Diane loved all animals, and found that her home along a creek in Blair was perfect as she was able to feed all of the birds, raccoons, squirrels and deer who ALL knew where she lived, and most of whom she had even named.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura Nelson and Granddaughter, Sarah Nelson both of Omaha; sisters Bev (Jerry) Sanders of Omaha and Sharon (Bill) Voss of Fort Calhoun along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and of course her favorite Grand-dog who will miss her visits, Charlie.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Diane was a regular blood donor so please attend the next Red Cross blood drive and give blood in her honor; that would have meant the world to her.

Visitation Sunday 5:00 – 7:00 PM; Service 1:00 PM Monday (1/23/2017) all at Roeder Mortuary 2727 N. 108th Street Omaha, Nebraska, Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery Omaha, Nebraska

Marian E. Ulmer

July 31, 1931- January 21, 2017

Marian Elizabeth Ulmer returned to be with our Heavenly Father at the age of 85 on January 21, 2017.

Marian McClaughry was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, she and husband Richard Ulmer were called to Aliceville, Kansas, where he was the sole teacher at a Lutheran grade school. They were blessed with three children in Kansas – Richard Jr., Kathie and Kristine.

The family then moved to Yorktown, Iowa, where Richard Sr. was principal of St. Paul Lutheran School. In Yorktown, she was blessed with three more children – Karen, Karol and Karla – and survived a killer tornado that devastated the town. The Ulmers’ final move was to Omaha in 1967, to St. Paul Lutheran School and Church, where Marian remained a member until death.

In 1971, Marian made international news when she was transported on a toboggan through a blizzard for the birth of her seventh child, Mark. Marian served St. Paul as Kindergarten teacher as well as preschool and Kindergarten teacher at two other Omaha-area churches. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, decorating and anything which required creativity. Perhaps her greatest testament is her loving family.

Marian is survived by husband Richard and children Karla Haggar, Karen Samson, Karol Ulmer and Kathie Wolfert, all of Omaha; as well as Kris Hock of Arvada, Colorado and Richard Ulmer Jr. of San Francisco. She is also survived many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by son Mark, in 1986.
