Annette W. Burroughs

Annette W Burroughs, of Omaha, NE, left this life on December 1st. Annette was born and raised in Omaha. She attended and graduated from Technical High School in 1983. Annette worked at Creighton University in enviromental services for greater than 31 years where she had rapport with both students and staff. She took great pride in her work.

Annette also loved her family which extended beyond those related by blood. Through the years, she took care of several generations of children and also cared for the elderly. She was a generous and loving person. Annette was loved and appreciated by her community. She loved her church and served on the culinary committee and was also an usher at Morning Star Baptist Church.

Annette was preceded in death by her mother: Marjorie J. Burroughs. She leaves to cherish her memory her father: Wilbert W. Burroughs; sisters: Alice Embery and Theresa Burroughs; brothers: William, Steve, Johnnie (Dian) Burroughs; nieces and nephews: Larry Burroughs, LaToya Burroughs, Shannetta Burroughs, Donta Burroughs, Golden Stewart, DeAmbra Wiseman; cousins: Victoria Franklin, James Meredith, Velita (Cliff) Glasgow, Victoria Hollins; god-mother: Queen Greene; god-sisters: Claudia Greene-Harrington and Roxanne McCallum; best friend: Dineen Peeples and a host of other family members and friends.

VISITATION Friday, December 9, 2016, 6:30pm-8:30pm at Roeder Mortuary – 4932 Ames Ave.

FUNERAL SERVICE 12pm Saturday, December 10 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 2019 Burdette Street. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

6/7/1931 – 12/1/2016

Jim was born in Omaha, NE and spent all of his life in the Omaha area. He was a graduate of Omaha North High and was always proud to let everyone know he was a North Omaha boy.

After spending on and a half years at the University of Omaha, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He served a 3 year tour on the East Coast. After being discharged, he returned to Omaha and enrolled at the University of Omaha earning a degree.

Jim played baseball for select teams from Omaha in his younger years, traveling to different cities in many tournaments. Later in life, he was inducted into the Omaha Baseball Hall of Fame.

After trying his hand at several jobs, Jim worked for the Douglas County Treasurer’s Office. He enjoyed his work and fellow employees. He worked until ill health required him to retire.

Jim was an avid golfer and played until the last 3 years of his life. Golf, Husker football, and the St. Louis Cardinals played a major role in his life.

Jim never knew a stranger and had many friends in Omaha or wherever he went. He will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his brothers: Ken and Al; his sister: Dorlene; and is survived by friend: Shirley; 5 Nephews; 3 Nieces.
