Passionate is the word that best describes Jackie’s life…
Jacqueline Amelia Hill was born April 24, 1943, in Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by both of her parents Mr. Carlatte Lewis and Mrs. Ellamae Katherine Jones. She received her education in the Omaha Public School system and was a graduate of Tech High School. Jackie was divorced and never remarried.
It was her passion to care for the health of other which lead to her obtain her RN from Methodist College in 1971 and later a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing through the University of Nebraska College of Nursing in 1981. Her profession led her to work for Omaha Public Schools from 1992 to 2003. Still feeling the need to do more, she returned to school and received her Master’s of Science in Nursing.
It was her passion that led her to her son Bryon Randolph Daniel, whom she nurtured, disciplined, and encouraged to become the dedicated son, husband, father and child advocate that he is.
In Jackie’s career she witnessed the health care disparities in the black community and sought to make some changes. When diagnosed with breast cancer she again noticed the lack of support and resources for black women. This spurred up her passion to do something about it and along with Mrs. Gwen Watson she co-founded My Sister’s Keeper, an organization designed to bring support and awareness for breast cancer in minority communities. But she did not stop there. She travelled across the country fighting for this cause, which earned her presidential recognition from form President’s Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. However, still see disparities and the needs of the community she organized health fairs where she pulled together other healthcare professionals to volunteer to provide screenings throughout the community. Still not feeling enough was being done she also formed support groups for diabetes, heart disease, and fitness and weight management.
As a breast cancer survivor and because of her battle she quietly wondered if she would become a grandmother. One of her greatest joys was when she found out her daughter-in-law Brandi was expecting. She nurtured, pampered, and fussed over Brandi throughout the pregnancies. This led to the next passion, her grandchildren Braelynn and Britton. A more than typical grandmother she showered them with love, affection, and compassion. She loved sharing their antics while struggling to keep a straight face.
Jackie leaves to cherish her memory: her son Bryon Randolph Daniel Hill, daughter in law Brandi Michaela (Mitchell) Hill, two grandchildren Braelynn Maryella and Britton Alvin Randale; two brothers Rodger Lewis (Mary) of Omaha, NE and Daniel Ware (Melody) of Evans, GA, a sister Andra Harrison (Earl) of Houston, TX; lifetime friend General Randolph Scott; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; her faithful dog Jordie; and many, many friends in the Omaha community, the health community, and the nation; and her most loving passion My Sister’s Keeper.
