3/20/1938 – 10/2/2016

James “Jim” Laurence Springer, 78, peacefully went home to our Lord Sunday, October 2, 2016 at The Josie Harper Residence Hospice House in Omaha following a battle with cancer.  He leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Carol Springer of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Kristi Springer of Plano, Texas; and son, Greg Springer of Riverton, Iowa.  He also leaves three step-children.

Jim was born March 20, 1938 in Hamburg, Iowa and grew up in and around the area until he turned 18 and moved to Omaha, Nebraska.  After he moved to Omaha, Jim went to refrigeration school before becoming a steamfitter.  Jim enjoyed traveling on family vacations to Minnesota and Colorado when his children, Kristi, Greg, and Lori, were young.  He loved being outdoors and fishing all while making life-long memories with his children.  Jim took a job with Sol Lewis as journeyman steamfitter, and he worked on and ran many building jobs throughout Omaha.  Jim celebrated 46 years of service as a steamfitter before retiring.  After retiring from steamfitting, Jim took up other passions of his and started woodworking and remodeling houses. In retirement he also returned to his farming roots. Jim had a passion for family, friends, and farming.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone who needed it.  He looked forward to every spring when he could plant and nurture his crops, and he took pride in having some of the best and earliest sweet corn and tomatoes in the area.

Jim was an incredible and loving grandfather who shared close relationships with his seven grandchildren including Sara Dean of Dallas, Texas; Christian Lindahl of Houston, Texas; Matthew Lindahl of Phoenix, Arizona; Jessica Cannon of Omaha, Nebraska; Peder Lindahl of Plano, Texas; Daniel Springer of Omaha, Nebraska; and Jacob Lindahl of Dallas, Texas.  Jim also leaves behind six step-grandchildren.  Grandpa Springer was an endless source of wisdom and entertainment.

Jim was adored and will be terribly missed by his six great grandchildren, Jackson Dean of Dallas, Texas; Cyrus Springer of Omaha, Nebraska; Campbell Dean of Dallas, Texas; Holden Dean of Dallas, Texas; Maks Lindahl of Phoenix, Arizona; and Wyatt Lindahl of Phoenix, Arizona.  Visits with Great Grandpa Springer included eating as much farm fresh Springer produce as possible, learning how to shoot a BB gun, riding on the farm tractors, and attending surprise soda pop parties in the corn fields.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Fern Carl; father, Bernard Springer; brother, Richard Springer; and daughter, Lori Engelke.

Private family services will be held.
