Cynthia Ulrich Sacks

June 9, 1949-May 22, 2016

Sacks, Cynthia Ulrich (born and died during peony season, her favorite flower). Her father, Robert Ulrich, met Patricia Frame as students at Doane College, where Cyndy lived her first year while her father finished his degree. Then the family moved to North Platte near where Bob’s and Pat’s extended family lived (in Ainsworth and Hershey, respectively). There she spent her formative years, with her younger sister Lorna, until she returned to Doane, this time as a student of art. Soon after, she met James McShane of Omaha, whom she married. With him, she had four children—Heather, Marisa, Katie, and Jameson—all of whom she was immensely proud, sometimes embarrassingly proud. During this busy time, she worked at Immanuel Hospital where she made lifelong friends. Later, after her divorce, she married Joel Sacks; she finished an associate’s degree in graphic design; and she began painting more, her children older and fairly independent. She became involved with the Nebraska Women’s Art Caucus and Country Kickers and played Bunko with the Ponca girls regularly. Her other interests were scattered and many: Gardening, books, music, fashion, travelling, her grandchildren…and ellipses. All family and friends expected her to continue for years after her lung cancer diagnosis. Now, even after her death, they know she….

Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, Robert Ulrich. She is survived by her mother, Patricia (Frame) Ulrich; her sister, Lorna (Ulrich) Packett; her four children and their partners, Heather McShane and Ryan Dunn, Marisa McShane and Ralf (Boehme) McShane, Katie McShane-Schwieger and Josh Schwieger, and Jameson McShane; four grandchildren, Henry Schwieger, Frida and Evan McShane, and Lens Dunn; and many other beloved relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Roeder Mortuary (2727 N. 108 St.). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
