Russell D. DeVoe

Omaha – Russell D. DeVoe passed away on October 19, 2015 at age 86. Mr. DeVoe was born on June 20, 1929 in Omaha to Helen and Bryan DeVoe. He attended grade school at Central Park and graduated 8th grade from Saratoga Grade School. Mr. DeVoe studied engineering and graduated from Omaha North High School in 1947. He served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1950-1953.

Mr. DeVoe held positions at Omaha Public Power, Olson Brothers Sheet-metal. Cook Paint & Varnish, and Lincoln Welding. He worked for State Farm Insurance and 17 years at Central National Insurance as a claims manager, retiring as vice-president. He also worked with Ben Nelson as a consultant for Charter Adjustment Service.

Mr. DeVoe was a member of the Confederate (now Commemorative) Air Force and worked on a C-47 cargo and B-25 bomber plane at the SAC Museum at Offutt Air Force Base. He and several friends built a model railroad the size of half a city block, with 50 trains, in Wahoo, Nebraska.

Mr. DeVoe was baptized at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 24th Hamilton, Omaha. He was married to Alice Eden of Centerville, Iowa, at Emmanuel on August 30, 1958. They were married almost 53 years before her death in 2010. Mr. DeVoe is also preceded in death by his parents, brother Don DeVoe, and nephew Doug DeVoe.

Survivors include sister-in-law Patsy Carey of Phoenix, Arizona; brothers-in-law Jim Eden and wife Irene of Hernando, Florida and Stephen Eden and wife Rosemary of Clive, Iowa; plus nieces and nephews. Mr. DeVoe is also survived by close friends Bill Collins, Lee Damhoff, Bob Krist, and Frank Rehmeir, all of Omaha.
