Marjorie Phelan was born December 12, 1930 in Schuyler, Nebraska. She attended Howells High School (’48) and National Business Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married William J. Phelan in 1949. The family moved to Gretna in 1964. Over the years Marjorie worked at Bethesda Nursing Home as a nursing aide, an activities director and social services assistant and later for Gretna Public Schools as a lunchroom server.

Marj was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of Altar Society, choir and the 55+ Club. Marjorie served many wedding and funeral dinners and provided altar flowers for the church. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary holding several leadership roles and serving many events at the club. She also served the local bloodmobile as a volunteer coordinator.

If you knew Marjorie you probably heard more than one of her epic stories. People were the source of her happiness and energy. She loved her family and friends. She was blessed with good health and time to truly enjoy her children, grandchildren and grand-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.

Marjorie had a great sense of humor and adventure. She never shied away from an opportunity to strike up a conversation, share a laugh, help someone out or try something new. She enjoyed history and travel and kept wonderful journals of her travels and family stories. She also loved to read, play the piano and garden. She had a particular knack for making quilts and throw pillows from t-shirts she collected during her travels.

Following a series of strokes, Marj passed away at SilverRidge Assisted Living Center on Saturday, June 2, 2018.

We will miss her stories, her smile, her laugh and her deep love for her family.
