Romulus Thomas was born August 13, 1953 in Autauga County, Alabama to the late John Henry Thomas, Sr. and the late Julia Nell Thomas.

Romulus began his formal education in the North Highland School system, and as the result of integration, he finished his education at Autauga County High School in Prattville, Alabama. While in high school, Romulus was given his nickname “Big Al” after a well-dressed local disc jockey whose fashion style influenced Romulus’s wardrobe choices. The name stuck with him throughout the rest of his life.

After high school, he attended Alabama A&M for two years, majoring in Urban Development. Romulus relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and later to Omaha, Nebraska where he received a degree in Culinary Arts from Metropolitan Community College.

Romulus loved meeting people and worked various jobs in the service and entertainment industries. He was very creative and was known for designing and creating elaborate ice sculptures. Romulus retired from the Ameristar Casino as a Supervisory Chef.

Romulus accepted Christ as his personal savior at a young age. In his later years, he would attend King Solomon Baptist Church.

Romulus was a loving and caring father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. We have been blessed to have had Romulus “Big Al” in our lives and to have been touched by his love.
