Paul William Briese, Sr.
6-25-1945 to 7-28-2018
Paul Briese, Sr. passed away unexpectedly while on his annual fishing trip in Sandy Bay, Saskatchewan, Canada with his son and grandson.
Paul is survived by his wife, Shari; daughter, Nancy (Roger) Godfrey; sons, Paul Jr. (Emma), Daniel; grandsons, Joseph Godfrey, Paul III and Keith Briese; sister, Mary Weyant; father & mother-in-law, Robert & Betty Olderog and brother-in-law, Mark (Faye) Olderog; many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Paul O. and Elenora Briese, sister Ramona Coakes and grandson Joshua Lamb.
Paul was born in Norfolk, Nebraska to Paul O. and Elenora (Jahde) Briese and was raised on the family farm in Albion, Nebraska. After graduating from Albion High School in 1963, Paul served in the United States Army. He joined the Omaha Police Department in 1969 from which he retired after almost 28 years. Early in his career as a police officer he met Shari, who was a 911 dispatcher. They began dating and celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary in March this year. He continued working in the community doing local security jobs after his retirement. His desire to return home to Albion and a lifelong dream were fulfilled when he was elected Boone County Sheriff. Following his term as Sheriff, Paul returned to Omaha where he joined some “old friends” working as a police officer with the Omaha Airport Authority. He was still employed there at the time of his death.
Paul loved spending time with his grandsons, especially attending their sporting events. Family was one of Paul’s greatest joys. He also loved the solitude of spending time on the family farm.
Paul’s “big hugs” will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
