R.C. ‘Lester’ Matthews

R.C. “Lester” Matthews was born on May 31, 1932 in Why Not, Mississippi to Willie and Emma Matthews.
He was preceded in death by both his parents as well as his four siblings: Paul Matthews, Leo Matthews, Cleo Matthews-Ruffin and Archie B. Matthews.
“Lester” moved to Omaha in the mid-1950s to find better employment opportunities. He was always a hard worker and had been employed with FBG Service Corporation for a number of years until he had taken ill recently.
In the late 1990s, R.C. met Minnie Smith, they dated and then married in 2002.
He gave his life to Christ early in life and had been a dedicated and faithful member of the St. Mark Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed attending church regularly and was an active member in the Men’s Chorus, the Usher Board, and the Brotherhood.
In his spare time, R.C./Uncle Lester loved to go fishing, play his guitar and sing. Above all he enjoyed worshipping the Lord, reading the Bible and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by wife Minnie L. Matthews and her children; daughter, Bessie Parham; son, Nathan T. Smith, Omaha; daughter Deborah Matthews, Council Bluffs.
He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the following nieces, nephews and their families: John Ruffin, Jr. (Brenda) of Pensacola, Florida; Judy Ruffin, Betty Lou Ruffin (Ike), Rose Ruffin, Tommy Ruffin, Patricia Ruffin, all of Omaha, and JoAnn Matthews-Brown (Craig) of Montgomery, Alabama; as well as many cousins and dear friends.
