Of Gretna, Robert William Kardell was born to Otto and Laura (Boeck) Kardell on September 1, 1927 in Shelby, Iowa. He grew up on multiple farmsteads helping his family farm. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1943 and graduated in 1945 from Avoca High School. After high school he worked as a hired hand. In 1953 he applied for a job at Bankers Life and Casualty where he worked for 60 years. In August of 1953, on a blind date, he met Darlene L Munderloh. They were married June 27, 1954. They settled in Phoenix, Arizona shortly after being married. While in Phoenix, Michael, Vicki, and Mark were born. In 1960 they relocated to Tucson, AZ. and Mathew was born. In 1967 Bob and family were relocated back to Omaha and Scott was born. In 1977 Bob and Darlene bought 40 acres of 156th and Fort and made an old farm house their home.  They treasured their time living out in the country again. Many memories were made in that home. In 1997 they relocated to Gretna where they were residing at the time of his passing. Bob took pride in his German heritage, was an avid fisherman, enjoyed Husker football on Saturdays, and never met a person he couldn’t talk to. He was very involved in his 12 grandchildren’s lives and was often heard bouncing one of his six great grandchildren on his knee singing his famous “deedle dee.” Bob passed within an hour of the birth of his 6th great grandchild, a grandson to carry on the Kardell name. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, his brothers Clarence and Jim, sister Betty Aldrich, and son Michael. I wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to the family. I am a first cousin of Robert. I am the daughter of Rudie and Helen Boeck. I lost my husband in 2013 and found comfort in sisters, daughter, son and friends.
