Rosa L. Sanderson

Rosa Lee Sanderson was born April 17, 1932, in Merryville, LA., to the union of Walter William and Bessie (Marshall) Sanderson. She was preceded in death by both parents and, one daughter, Kathy Spikes.

At an early age, Rosa confessed her hope in Christ. Rosa grew to love Hebrews 13:5 and her life was a reflection of her favorite scripture. Rosa attended elementary school in Call, Texas, and attended Allen Parrish High School in Oakdale, Louisiana. Rosa later married Frankie Spikes and Willie James. Rosa moved to Chicago in 1956, from Oakdale, Louisiana. In 1970, Rosa united with Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. August Minor where she was able to worship and serve, surrounded by her family until 1986, when she moved to Omaha, Nebraska.

Settled in Nebraska with additional family, Mother Sanderson cherished her new home and united with the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Felix Jones. In February 2000, always ensuring she was in fellowship, Rosa united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Walter B. Jones and in April 2007, she became a charter member of the New Beginning Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Walter B. Jones.

Mother Rosa Lee Sanderson fought a good fight and peacefully passed away on January 22, 2016, at home surround by her loved ones. She leaves to cherish her memory, five daughters: June Evelyn Moore, Rose Marie Sanderson, Patricia Ann Sanderson, Rena Sanderson-Lee, and Sonja Bowens (Anthony); eight grandchildren: Monique, Monta (Stephany), Jacqui, Damita, Kenisha (Terrill), Devonta, Marianna and Tia; eighteen great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

Mother Sanderson will be dearly missed by her family and her precious memories will be treasured and held in our hearts.
