Tiny lived across the street from me and even before school age we played together. She had two talents that to this day stand out in my mind. First, she was a gifted athlete. I think she learned to ride a bicycle (without training wheels)when she was four. She could run faster than anyone at St. Phillip Neri grade school and won many contests during our annual school picnics. When we were in sixth or seventh grade we formed the “Four Fireballs” bowling team along with Ruth Hemmingson and Judy Halstead. She excelled at that sport too. Second, she was very good in math and always in the top of the class. I was jealous of her abilities because I couldn’t run or count! I expected her to one day be the track coach at MIT or something similar where she could combine those talents! I have fond memories of all the Adlers especially kind hearted Louie and Shirley (who used to cart us around on her bicycle in a game we called “Taxi”)and Billy because they were close in age to my sister and I.I felt Tiny was the eye of the hurricane in the Adler clan, being in the center like she was and a bit of a whirling dervish in her own right. My sympathies to you. No doubt the vacuum left by her absence will be keenly felt by all.
